The School of English at JISU was founded in 1995, and now includes the English department, Business English department, Bilingual Teaching department and College English Teaching department. There are more than 1100 undergraduates and 80 graduates in the School. The major of English is listed in the "12th five-year plan" programs of provincial characteristics, ranking the first among the newly-established undergraduate colleges and universities in the comprehensive evaluation of programs in Jilin Province in 2016. The Business English major is one of the well-established programs in China. The School now has 4 provincial “quality courses,” 4 provincial “excellent courses” and 3 provincial “excellent teaching teams.”
