The graduate education of JISU began in 2005, firstly through joint programs with Jilin Normal University and Northeast Normal University. In 2011, approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, JISU became a pilot university for professional degree graduate education, a project of serving special needs of the country, making it one of the five private universities to take the lead in conducting graduate education of master's degrees, and the only private university as an authorized unit to professional degree for translation majors in China. We have been persisting in the application-oriented education and constantly adjusting and optimizing the disciplinary structure. As the only foreign language university in Jilin Province and offering the largest number of foreign languages in Northeast China, the University has become a prestigious training center for foreign languages learners in Jilin Province by virtue of its language advantages and special characteristics.

In 2014, the University started to offer master’s educational programs on International Business, Education, and Chinese International Education. In 2015, it became a pilot institution for professional master's degrees in vocational and technical education and was approved by the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council in 2017 as a graduate degree conferring unit. At the same time, three master degree authorization programs were granted, namely translation, pedagogy and accounting. At present, our postgraduate education consists in 1 academic master degree program and 5 professional master degree programs (in 20 fields), standing at the forefront of private colleges and universities in China. The programs have covered all professional degree authorization areas in liberal arts, economics, management, education and art, forming an integrative application-oriented model from undergraduate to graduate education, and have optimized the structure and layout of training model of postgraduate students, contributing to building JISU into a prominent private university.

Continuing to adhere to the motto of "Expertise in both Chinese and other cultures; Cultivation of talents with lofty ideals", JISU will strive for the goal of building a world-known non-profit first-class university of foreign languages, giving full play to the existing professional characteristics and disciplinary advantages, and further broadening disciplinary fields to cultivate more excellent, application-oriented and innovative talents.
