Talent Cultivation

The School of Chinese attaches great importance to professional construction and talent development. The major in Chinese International Education features "specialty + foreign language." The English courses run through four years. It offers second foreign language courses with targeted training. Chinese Language and Literature focuses on the training of Chinese language teachers and clerical staff, which also strengthens the three core abilities of "language expression, reading comprehension and writing." The major in Editing and Publishing Science and the Network and New Media major adapt to the new situation of the integration of modern media, and strengthens core abilities of speaking, reading and writing. Students are aimed to be equipped with abilities to speak Chinese and foreign languages with a strong editing ability, along with digital, practical and international communication skills. The Broadcasting and Hosting major aims to train students with international vision and knowledge of drama and film and television, and knowledge of Chinese language and literature, journalism and communicationwhile meeting the developing demands of the media industry. It also strives to cultivate students to be professionals who have the distinct advantage of English and can engage in broadcasting and hosting work. Currently, the School has 1436 graduates, and the employment rate of graduates from previous years has been kept above 90%. They work in schools, enterprises and institutions of culture and media, or study as graduates or overseas exchange students. Jian Xiang, a 2009 graduate majoring in Chinese International Education, serves a Chinese lecturer at USC. Chen Yiran and Zhang Suodi, 2017 graduates from the Editing and Publishing Science major, won creativityawards in the first national college students publishing creative competition of "Tao Fen Cup".
