"Northeast Asia Ice & Snow Tourism Industry Forum" Held in JISU

On November 22nd, 2021, the Jilin Province Northeast Asia Ice & Snow Tourism Industry Forumwas held in JISU. This forum, with the theme of Status Quo and Prospect of Ice & Snow Tourism in Northeast Asia, is sponsored by the Information Office of the Peoples Government of Jilin Province and undertaken by the Jilin International Culture Association and JISU. More than 200 experts, scholars, and practitioners from the ice & snow tourism industry and related fields from China, Russia, Japan, and South Korea attended the forum online or in person.

Against the backdrop of the upcoming 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Games and new opportunities for cooperation and development of ice & snow tourism in northeast Asia, the forum was held to explore in-depth ideas and driving forces for the winter tourism development in northeast Asia, as well as develop new fields for ice & snow tourism and products in Jilin. This was done with a view to practicing the concept of Olympics in Beijing, Experience in Jilinand set a new example in winter tourism research and international cooperation.

Li Yansheng, Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, and Li Yang, President of the Jilin International Culture Association attended the forum.

The forum was hosted by Yuan Hailong, Dean of Ice and Snow Economy Research Institute of JISU. Speakers included Du Guoqing, Professor of the College of Tourism, Rikkyo University, Japan, Xu Xun, President of the Jilin Ice Sports Association, and Jana Starovoitova, Dean of the School of Service and Hotel Management, Ural State University of Economics, Russia, Jang Hyewon, Dean of the Korean Cultural Industry Research Institute, AnDong National University, South Korea, Olga Ergunova, Dean of the Department of Tourism, Business and Hotel Management, Ural State University of Economics, Lin Xianpeng, Professor of Beijing Sport University, and Djubanov Vadim, Associate Professor of Tomsk State Pedagogical University, Russia. They gave keynote speeches in turn, sharing their experience in the ice & snow culture tourism industry, analyzing opportunities and challenges faced by the development of ice & snow tourism in northeast Asia, in order to promote the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and make recommendations for the ice & snow industry development around the world.

Experts attending the meeting agreed that the ice & snow tourism industry is an emerging industry. With its ecology of health experience, education of culture inheritance, fun of fitness and entertainment, and integration with other industries, it is becoming a booster to accelerate the regional economy in China. With rich resources, perfect infrastructure, abundant personnel, broad prospects, northeast Asia is one of the worlds famous ice & snow tourist destination. The success of the Forum has set up a good platform for establishing a cooperation mechanism between Jilin Province and ice & snow tourist institutions in northeast Asian countries and regions. It is of great significance to deepen industrial cooperation, build ice & snow Silk Road, and boost the ice & snow tourism industry in northeast Asian regions.

The teachers and students of the Graduate School of Translation and Interpreting of JISU undertook the interpretation of this forum in English, Russian, Japanese and Korean.

As the base for training foreign-language talents in Jilin Province, aiming to serving the construction of the Belt and Roadand promoting Jilin development, JISU is committed to cultivating practical and composite high-quality personnel with patriotic feelings and international vision. To drive the development of the ice & snow tourism industry in Jilin Province, through jointly building the School of International Ice and Snow, JISU and Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism innovate the application-oriented talent training mode of ice & snow tourism + English + minor languagesand carry out tourism management talent training by school, government, industry, and associationto promote the in-depth integration of ice & snow, culture, and tourism. The School of International Ice and Snow boasts National Ice and Snow Tourism Excellent Course, provincial-level school-enterprise cooperation courses, provincial-level online excellent courses, school-level Golden Course, and excellent teaching reform projects. The smart tourism professional group constructed by the School has been approved as a transformation and development demonstration in Jilin Province. It has two on-campus training rooms and fourteen off-campus practice bases, such as the Shanghai Disney Resort, then Grand Hyatt Beijing, and the Changchun Hyatt Hotel. In 2021, it became one of the first provincial demonstrative modern industrial schools in Jilin Province. JISU has also actively built research platforms, including the Ice and Snow Economy Research Institute and an international ice & snow development think tank and information center (database), to provide personnel and intellectual support for the development of ice & snow economy and the construction of ice & snow Silk Roadin Jilin Province.
