Thai Ambassador to China Visits JISU

          On the morning of July 10, Arthayudh Srisamoot, the Thai Ambassador to China and his wife visited JISU. Xu Liang, Deputy Secretary-General of Jilin Provincial Government; Wang Zhong, Party Secretary of Jilin Provincial Education Department; Jiang Yanhui, Director of Jilin Foreign Affairs Office; and Li Jianhua, Deputy Director of Jilin Provincial Foreign Affairs Office accompanied the visit. President Qin He and other school leaders received the visitors.

 Accompanied by President Qin He, Ambassador Arthayudh Srisamoot and his delegation visited the campus’s Central Square and learned about the building concept and development layout of JISU’s “Bridge”, “High-quality Curriculum” and “Foreign Languages”. They visited the library which is modern, information-based and international and were deeply impressed by the school’s education concept of “being student-centered and being responsible for students”. They visited the International Exchange Center and gave due credit to JISU’s efforts in creating an international exchange atmosphere. They attached great importance to the cultivation of students’ language application ability, professional practice ability, intercultural communication ability, and innovation ability.

 President Qin He delivered a welcome speech on behalf of JISU and extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Arthayudh Srisamoot and his delegation. She hoped that the cooperation and exchange between the University and Thai universities would be further strengthened, and that the model would be innovative for China-Thailand with the view of promoting educational exchange and cooperation to a higher level.


        In his speech, Ambassador Arthayudh Srisamoot spoke highly of JISU’s achievements in international education and its role as a bridge in cultural exchanges between Thailand and China. He promised that he would strongly support the construction of the Thai language program of JISU and endeavor to create favorable conditions for the in-depth cooperation between JISU and Thai higher education.


 

 In his speech, Secretary Wang Zhong introduced international cooperation and exchanges of education in Jilin Province in recent years. He stressed that JISU is the only private language university in Jilin Province and the only one setting up a Thai language major. In recent years, JISU has kept close contact with Thai education in the fields of teacher-student exchanges, teaching and research, talent training, and practices. From now on, Jilin Province will further practice the “Belt and Road” initiative, and make every effort to create a good environment for in-depth and higher-level China-Thailand educational cooperation and exchanges in future.

 

        Later, the China-Thailand cultural exchange activity was held in the Lecture Hall on the first floor of the International Exchange Center. Ambassador Arthayudh Srisamoot delivered a speech, encouraging students majoring in Thai to study hard and play a contributing role in cultural exchanges between Thailand and China.

 

 

           Students from JISU performed “Xi”, an archaistic song about a sad love story, with Chinese musical instruments: Zheng and Pipa, and the other 22 Thai Language majors performed songs and dances combining Chinese and Thai cultures.

 

        During the activity, there was also a Q&A session on Thai culture knowledge, which enabled students to enhance their understanding of Thai culture and stimulate their enthusiasm for Thai language learning.

        At the end of the exchange activity, President Qin took a photo with Ambassador Arthayudh Srisamoot and his wife, along with other members of the delegation, as well as some JISU students and teachers.

Jilin International Studies University (JISU) is committed to cultivating high-quality, practical and interdisciplinary foreign language talents applicable to foreign affairs for the “Belt and Road” initiative and Jilin’s revitalization. The university actively promotes the process of international education. Currently, it has carried out educational cooperation and exchanges with more than 200 universities and educational institutions from more than 30 countries and regions as well as has been approved 3 Sino-foreign cooperative education programs by the Ministry of Education. They are Finance Major with American New Jersey City University, German Major (Translation) with Germany Munich University and Spanish Major (Business Management) with Spanish Polytechnic University of Cartagena. It has the enrollment qualification to grant “Silk Road Chinese Government Scholarship”, “China-Africa Friendship Chinese Government Scholarship”, “Jilin Provincial Government Scholarship for Foreign Students” and “International Chinese Teachers Scholarship”. It enrolls about 300 foreign students every year. More than 800 Chinese students have been sent abroad to participate in double bachelor’s degree programs, undergraduate, and postgraduate programs. Including long-term and short-term language and cultural exchanges and, even for some majors, all students have the overseas study experience.

  JISU set up the Thai language major in 2020. The university has signed cooperation agreements with Krirk University, Southeast Bangkok College, and Dhurakij Pundit University, and established overseas internship bases in Thailand’s Marivi School and Thailand’s Tamburit Education Group. The scale and scope of exchanges and cooperation between JISU and Thailand have been expanding year by year. In 2019, 67 students from Thailand visited China and were taught Chinese language skill and culture. In 2021, a number of high school graduates from Thailand successfully gained the Silk Road Chinese Government Scholarship of JISU and will start their undergraduate studies in the School of International Culture and Tourism.
