Recently, Zhang Yan, a student of Grade 2018 majoring in English (English and Korean) from the School of Oriental Languages at JISU, won the merit scholarship of Chonnam National University (CNU), South Korea. This award was founded to encourage foreign students at CNU. Five outstanding students are selected to receive this honor from almost one-hundred foreign exchange students during each semester, and the award is equivalent to about 10,000 yuan.

In March 2012, our university signed an exchange and cooperation agreement with CNU. Up to now, both schools have carried out various programs, such as a student exchange, dual-degree study and communication projects, etc.. A total of ninety-five students have been sent to South Korea for communication and study. In January 2021, Zhang Yan went to CNU to participate in the student exchange program. At CNU, she has worked and has achieved impressive scholastic accomplishments. What’s more, she has acquired the National Encouragement Scholarship, the First Class Scholarship, the Second Class Scholarship and the Academic Competition Scholarship.

Zhang Yan expressed great gratitude to JISU for providing her with the opportunity to study abroad. She could not have won the exchange scholarship without the careful guidance of JISU’s teachers as she is still new in South Korea. She said, “During my freshman and sophomore years, I learned Korean, which not only laid a solid language foundation, but also helped me deeply understand South Korean culture. In my following studies, I will continue to work hard to live up to the expectations of JISU and my teachers, and to win honor for JISU. I also hope to build a bridge for the cultural exchanges between China and South Korea.”
