No. 1 Winning the fight against the epidemic through prevention and control on campus. Confronted with the coronavirus issue, JISU quickly established a leading group on epidemic prevention and control, fully implementing requirements of the central party, government authorities, provincial committee, and the government on the epidemic prevention and control. The school adapted measures tailored to specific local conditions in terms of efforts in online teaching, staff investigation, information submission, material supply, scientific popularization and publicity, psychological counseling, emergency response, and the restart of schools and businesses so as to build a comprehensive structure on epidemic prevention and control. The school launched a party branch responsible for coronavirus management positions, especially for those students in the affected areas in Hubei province. JISU also conducted the online teaching activity for 689 courses. It mobilized 341 student volunteers to contribute to the prevention and control of the first hurdle in 11 provinces and 31 cities domestically, and organized a large number of students and faculties to fight against the coronavirus together by donating money and goods to infected areas. Thus, its honorable actions were reported by multiple news media such as The People's Daily and Xinhua News Agency. JISU made all efforts to stabilize and guarantee employment work, and in particular, the initial employment rate of the class of 2020 was above the average around Jilin Province, which was praised by the Education Department of Jilin Province.
No. 2 Beginning a new start-up journey. After the 13th Five-Year Plan, JISU ranked number one in the list of domestic private colleges in 2020 according to ARWU (Academic Ranking of World Universities) as one of the most influential universities. JISU was successfully selected into the high-level characteristic university projects in Jilin province (A-level of application-orientation). Under the guidance of the 14th Five-Year Plan, JISU launched the Second Startup Journey to comprehensively strengthen the connotation construction and promote development with distinctive features, innovation, and high quality.
No. 3 Making progress in the construction of a new liberal arts system. President Qin He participated in the National Conference on the Building of New Liberal Arts, and JISU established the Simultaneous Interpretation School-level Learning Workshop naming “Outstanding Huaqiao Class” with 5 new undergraduate programs, 1 discipline category, 1 first-class discipline master’s degree program, and 4 professional master’s degree programs added to its original programs. Mongolian textbooks compiled by our teachers were officially published in Mongolia. And seven courses were approved as “Superior Courses in Jilin Province.”
No. 4 New achievement was made in development with distinctive characteristics. The unveiling ceremony of the Jilin Province Non-profit Private Higher Education Innovation and Development Demonstration Center and the Jilin Province Pengbei Psychological Counseling Studio were conducted in JISU. JISU was approved to serve as a base for CATTI (China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters). JISU was also elected into the National University Psychological Committee Research Cooperation Group and the Member Unit of the Alumni Research Branch of the China Association of Higher Education.
No. 5 The innovative practice of the “Three-whole Education” mode advanced to a new level. JISU strengthened their research on the innovation of party building and publicity, with 3 national patents getting approval. It was also elected as one of the “Provincial Party Building Performance Model Branches”. JISU now serves “the organizer of Jilin Province University Ideological and Political Work Innovation and Development Center”. The volunteer service project in JISU won an advanced model of the “Four 100s” and “the Best Volunteer Service Project” on the Lei Feng-spirit voluntary services by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and the gold medal in the Fifth Chinese Youth Voluntary Service Project Contest. JISU also earned the titles of the National Demonstration Team of Chinese Youth Voluntary Service “Colorful Holiday”, Volunteer Service Project Demonstration Team of Chinese Young volunteers Caring for Left-behind Children “Colorful 4:30pm”, and Social Practice Activities Excellent Team of National College Students and Secondary Specialized Students Volunteers Summer “Activity on Three Rural Areas”.
No. 6 Scientific research broke new ground. The Jilin International Institute for Strategic Studies was established in JISU. JISU organized the Northeast Asian Ethnic Relations Academic Forum and co-established the “Publishing International Exchange and Cooperation Research Institute” with the Jilin Provincial Press and the Publication Bureau. 1 Subsequent Funding Project of the National Social Science Fund of China and 2 Foreign Translation Projects of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China were added to its Scientific research achievements. JISU received 64 scientific research awards including the Changchun Municipal Social Science Research Outstanding Achievement Award and the Jilin Provincial Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award.
No. 7 JISU became more internationally known. President Qin He gave her speech at the 9th World Women University Presidents Forum which announced that the 10th World Women University Presidents Forum would be held at JISU in 2022. The Sino-Spanish Cooperative School Operation Project was launched and the “Chinese Bridge” Online Group Exchange project directed by the Ministry of Education was approved. The German teacher Anna was honored with the Changbai Mountain Friendship Award, the highest honor for foreign experts in Jilin Province.
No. 8 Cooperative education made new breakthrough. JISU and Iflytek Co. Ltd. jointly established an artificial intelligence industry college to cultivate professional talents, and signed strategic cooperation agreements with Yanbian University, Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun Normal University, Tencent Education Technology Co. Ltd., and Neusoft Group Co. Ltd. It also signed agreements of establishing an internship base with the Ministry of Commerce International Business Officer Training Institute, FAW Toyota (Changchun) Engine Co. Ltd., China News Service Jilin Branch, Dongfang Juntai (Beijing) Information Technology Co. Ltd., Shanghai Hexing Education Technology Group Co. Ltd., and Beijing Xueersi Education Technology Co. Ltd.
No. 9 The structure of teaching staff was improved and upgraded. 10 teachers were selected to be the “Leading Personnel” of the national ministerial and provincial level. 5 teachers were evaluated as Experts of Academic Disciplines on Jilin Provincial Social Science Planning & Management and 9 were rated as Provincial Social Science Planning Management Bank Experts. 8 teachers were appointed as Experts of the Jilin Provincial Higher Education Association Expert Database and the teaching cases were selected by the case base of the China Professional Degree Teaching Case Center for the first time. Some teaching cases were selected as typical ones of online teaching in the course of anti-epidemic work among undergraduate colleges in Jilin. Other professional courses were estimated as “National Ice and Snow Tourism Quality Courses” and “Exemplary Teaching Packages” by Chaoxing Erya Web-based Teaching Platform. Teachers won the first prize of the 4th “National Youth Cup” in the National College Art and Design Competition, the second prize of national semifinal of the FLTRP Star Teacher Contest, the second prize of the first National College Foreign Language Course Ideological and Political Teaching Contest, and the grand prize of the 11th “SFLEP Cup” Young Teachers Teaching Contest of Jilin Province in 2020. Several teachers also earned the titles of “Outstanding Assistants of National Private Colleges”, “Famous Teachers of Jilin Province”, “Outstanding Contribution of Technical Talents of Jilin Province”, and “Model of Teachers’ Ethics in Changchun City”.
No. 10 Awards gained by students hit a new high. Students in JISU won 692 awards totally including 276 at the national level. These awards were depicted as follows: The first prize of the 10th “Confucius Institute Cup” Sino-Russian Song Contest, the Grand Prize of National Business English Translation Competition, the first prize of National Contest for College Business English Knowledge, the first prize of National Indonesian Writing Competition, the first prize of “HEP Cup” National Business English Practice Contest (Northeast Regional Contest), the grand prize of “Challenge Cup” Jilin Province College Students’ Entrepreneurship Plan Contest, the grand prize of “Tian Jiabing Cup” the 2nd Jilin Province Normal Student Teaching Skills Competition, the gold medal of the 6th Jilin Province College Students’ “Internet Plus” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award, the first prize of the Red Tourism Volunteer Interpreter Competition for College Students in Jilin Province, and the first prize of the 4th Jilin Province Chinese Vocational Education Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and Champion of Jilin Province Student Martial Arts Championship; Cai Xue. Other alumnae of JISU won titles of “the Bearer of Red Flag of March 8” and “the Bearer of Red Flag of March 8”. Shi Tianyi and Gao Yiwen were rated as “the Entrepreneur Persons” and “Enlisted Persons in the Army” among the 3rd National College Students; Su Kewei was elected as “National Excellent Communist Youth League Member”, Gao Zhao the representative of the 27th National Student Federation, and Li Siyuan “the National Top 100 Psychological Committee member”.
