On November 19th, the final round of the “Journey of Beautiful China” Red Tourism Volunteer Guide Contest for college students was held in Changchun. After fierce competition, Sun Siqing, a JISU student majoring in hotel management from class 1801, won the first prize. Xing Yanzhuo, another JISU student majoring in tourism administration from class 1701, got the second prize under the guidance of professors Li Jun and Jin Hua in the School of International Culture and Tourism.

The contest was sponsored by the Department of Culture And Tourism of Jilin Province. The theme of “Red Tourism and Dream Journey of College Students in Jilin” has been used for three consecutive years. The competition also had displays that showed the in-depth achievements of “Six Ones”, another red tourism activity organized for the second year in a row. Focusing on themes such as “Paying Tribute to China,” “Listening to the Stories of Forerunners of the Revolution,” “Singing the Praises of the New Era,” and “Hailing Heroes and Heroines,” the contest fully demonstrated the abilities and spirited outlook of the volunteer guides.

In the contest, Sun Siqing vividly told a moving story of a girl who was from Wangqing County and died a heroic death in order to protect anti-Japanese guerrillas in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

Xing Yanzhuo looked back at heroic stories of General Yang Jingyu, a commander of the Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army, before his death. They eulogized sworn revolutionary spirit and national integrity of martyrs for the peace and stability of the country and homeland with emotional interpretation. They expressed firm faith and determination of young students who bore heroic aspirations in mind, carrying forward the revolutionary spirit, and contributing their youth and abilities to the prosperous development of China and the revitalization of Jilin.

Sun Siqing said, “We really progressed in both mind and morale by preparing for and participating in the contest . Although we are in a peaceful era now, we cannot forget the tough years of the past. The baton of history is now in our hands, so we should make contributions that make more people revisit and remember history. We also need to ensure that the red gene will never fade and be passed from one generation to the next.”

Xing Yanzhuo said, “Those heroic stories always deserve to be repeated so that they will be learned and remembered by young generations. We all should respond to the call of the times by carrying forward the national spirit, and standing up for our nation. Let us strive for the great rejuvenation of China!”
