On October 26th, the practice activity of “Getting Closer to Media Professionals” conducted by the Department of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts from the School of International Arts was held at Room 404 in the laboratory building. Li Jiaxing, a journalist of the All Media Information Center of Jilin Radio and TV Station and a program director of Coordinates, was invited to give a special report named Media Workers in the New Media Era to more than 70 students.

Getting Closer to Media Professionals” is a series of professional practice activities conducted by the Department of Broadcasting and Hosting Arts from the School of International Arts, which has been carried out thirteen times so far. Yuan Yifang, a compere of The First Report of the Jilin Television Public News Channel, as well as Zhang Qian, a radio host of Jilin People’s Broadcasting Station spoke at the event. There were also many other excellent frontline staff from both the radio and television industries, both inside and outside Jilin province, including producers, planners, program choreographers, hosts and reporters. These professionals stepped into the lecture room to talk with students about their career experiences, aiming to help them learn more about the current development of the media industry, promote their professional perceptions, illuminate the direction of professional study and establish professional learning goals and career aspirations.

Li Jiaxing has been selected among the Top Ten Journalists by Jilin Radio and Television Station for two consecutive years. He has also won the first prize of the 27th China Journalism Awards and the third prize of the 25th China Journalism Awards. In addition, Coordinates, a new media show operated by him, has obtained special cultural support funds from the Publicity Department of Jilin Provincial Party Committee for two consecutive years, which then was named as an innovation case of the 2018 Jilin province publicity ideological and cultural work. In the report, he talked about his own working experience and used Coordinates as an example to further explain how to make an influential TV program with cultural connotation.

Li Jiaxing’s vivid talk aroused students’ deep thinking. Many students expressed that “After listening to his speech, we have gained more in-depth understanding of our major of broadcasting and hosting arts and realized the crucial and immense mission that this major and industry entrust to us. Thus, we should learn more professional knowledge, master professional skills and keep pace with the new era to tell Chinese stories and convey China’s strength to the globe.”
