September 13th-14th saw beautiful autumn days with a clear blue sky and cool wind. The beautiful campus of JISU was permeated with passion and vitality. The 2020 freshmen, full of expectation and anticipation, came to Jilin International Studies University from all over the country to start their brand new life.

This year, JISU admitted 2774 undergraduate students from 26 provinces in China. 487 students were upgraded from junior colleges and will study for their second bachelor degree. And 499 graduate students will study 6 master's degree authorization points in 25 majors fields, such as Translation, Education, International Education of Chinese Language, International Business, Accounting, and Pedagogy. Compared with previous years, the enrollment quality of undergraduates and graduate students and the recognition of the school by students and parents has been improved.

Responding to the epidemic prevention and control, JISU carried out all the work at welcoming freshers. After strict temperature measurement, health code scanning, hand and luggage disinfection, freshers and their parents were ushered in by volunteers.

In the registration hall, the digital welcome system made the whole registration work faster, orderly, and efficiently. With their admission letters and ID cards, freshers easily completed information collection, paying tuition fees, class placement, dormitory allocation, enrollment qualification examination, campus-card issuance, and check-in.

The annual greeting work presented JISU’s campus culture, which can enrich students' life. Sophomores' active participation in this work is a tradition and characteristic of JISU. To ensure its quality, the School Youth League Committee trained more than 170 student volunteers to take charge of the service work with vigor and passion. The committee trained how to greet the freshers at the station, measure body temperature, scan the health code, guide at the campus, and other formalities. Everything they did was to make the freshers and their parents feel the school’s enthusiasm and warmth from the station to the campus.

Volunteers exchange learning experience with the freshmen

Different schools also organized over 100 volunteers to provide patient and thoughtful service for the freshmen, help them with registration, getting related school materials, moving in the dormitory, and dining. One of the parents said, "JISU is clean and tidy. The students here look energetic and have a good spirit. The epidemic prevention and control work here is also very nice. I hope my child can enjoy his study here in this beautiful university!" "JISU is my dream university," said Wang Suhang, a freshman majoring in TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages), "It's not only because it's a beautiful campus, but also because of its great social reputation and influence. I am looking forward to my campus life here. I hope I can get professional knowledge and skills, become an excellent person like our professors, and show our Chinese culture to international friends. That is what we should do as a Chinese youth!"

Entering JISU, one can see many campus architectures with a combination of Chinese and Western culture, which is embodied with the concept of "bridge", "professional"and "international". Along with this, one can see the beautiful natural scenery, smiling professors, students, and thoughtful volunteer services. The university also has supporting policies to help students realize their dream of going to a college. Besides, another tradition of JISU is the "noodle to welcome home". Freshmen can get a bowl of delicious noodle for free in the cafeteria, and taste the warmth of our school.

In the work of welcoming the new arrivals, our school attaches great importance to the the campus culture. In order to help students understand JISU's university culture and idea, we have compiled and printed several materials. The enrollment guidebook is one, and presents different educational activities before the semester starts to give a comprehensive explanation for the freshmen in culture, profession, security, foreign affairs, and the epidemic prevention and control. This can help the students to integrate into JISU's campus life as soon as possible. Our school also organized the students to visit the campus, the university history museum, and other places in order to help them get familiar with JISU. After these, the freshmen will participate in military training for half a month to help them to become more decisive, brave, tenacious, self-controlled, and indomitable- all while laying a sound foundation for their college life.

The pre-course education for the freshmen is not only a key point of welcoming them, but also a starting point of the university life. The first lesson in college is a "beacon" for the students. Therefore, JISU pays high attention to its work. It has systematically designed a program, and formulated the themes in stages, so that the freshmen can successfully complete the role transition between high-school student and university student, have a deeper understanding the talent cultivation concept, and study the knowledge of epidemic prevention and control. Together, all of these lay a sound foundation for further study and for life.
