Recently the official WeChat platform of Hanban, the national Confucius Institute Headquarters, reported that Confucius Institutes throughout five countries have made full use of the web-based teaching platform to meet international students’ Chinese-learning demands so as to reduce the impact of the epidemic on Chinese teaching under such headlines as “Learning Chinese Online Whilst Traditional Classroom Teaching is Suspended: Passions for Chinese Learning Aroused Through the ‘Cloud Classroom’”. The report introduces the web-based online teaching of JISU’s Confucius Institute at NJCU with vivid photos.

According to the report, Professor Li Kuo, who is teaching the undergraduates a credit Chinese course at the Confucius Institute at NJCU, uploads the materials such as the teaching syllabus, lecture PowerPoint, assignments, and tests to the “Blackboard” system every week. the students will learn the teaching materials autonomously, and submit their projects weekly to the system. Li will review and grade these works on the platform, and scores of which will be automatically recorded into the Blackboard scoring system. Meng Hong, the teacher of the course Elementary Chinese, gives online lectures with “Google Classroom”, where the typical procedures, such as the students’ preview and review of learning materials. The interactions between Li and the students, and the posting and grading of students’ weekly assignments are all conducted online. More importantly, group discussions can also be carried out on this platform. Meng Hong said that he could assign students homework separately through the platform and score openly, which was very efficient, and that although it was online teaching, the interactions between the teacher and students were frequent and very convenient.

Hanban speaks highly of the work of the Confucius Institutes and requires that during the epidemic, each Confucius Institute ensures, "Suspended Class, and Ongoing Learning." Chinese teachers from various countries hold their positions and try their best to provide conditions for students to learn Chinese, which presented their responsibilities. This enthusiasm for international Chinese education and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries is even more touching. In the future, Confucius Institutes will continue to develop better and more interesting Chinese courses for students.
