To ensure the smooth return of students to school and effectively maintain the safety of the teachers and students, JISU held a practical drill for the prevention and control of the pandemic on April 20.
President Qin He served as the general commander of the drill, and other school leaders and heads of relevant departments were present to guide the drill. Deans of the schools, heads of student management departments and other relevant staff participated in the drill.
The drill focused on seven simulated tasks: inspection upon entering a door, pre-examination and triage, apartment occupancy, dining in the canteen, in-class study, daily disinfection and emergency treatment, and the “twelve processes”.
Inspection upon entering a door
After students get registered, they need to walk along the planned route, keeping a distance of 1 meter with each other and orderly wait in queue. The staff will take students’ temperatures, verify their identities, and check the students’ return notices and health codes.
If a student has a high temperature during registration, the registration passage will be quickly closed and disinfected. The school doctor will bring the student to the temporary inspection zone to re-check his temperature. After confirmation, the doctor will take the student to the temporary quarantine room at the school’s hospital to get information on the student’s contact history and travel route.
For those students who have never been to the pandemic hotspots and have no contact history, the school will arrange school busses and staff to accompany them to the on-site doctors. Meanwhile, the driver and escorts should wear isolation suits.
For those students who have traveled to hotspots or have contact history, the school will report this to the Jingyue District Disease Control Center as soon as possible, and wait for specialized transport vehicles to take them to the hospital. Sick students and accompanying staff should wear isolation suits.
Apartment Occupancy
The apartment management staff verify students’ identities and take their temperature. Students can then enter their apartments.
If the students’ temperature exceeds 37.3 ℃, it will be reported to the counselor in a timely manner. The counselor will also report to the Student Work Prevention and Control Leading Group of JISU right away. In addition, the Student Work Prevention and Control Group will report it to the office of the school’s Pandemic Prevention and Control Leading Group, and promptly contact the school hospital. The school will arrange professionals to make closed-off areas in the dormitory, guide and quarantine the person at risk, and disinfect and ventilate their apartment.
Dining in the Canteen
Before entering the canteen, students need to wait in queue one meter apart and enter through the designated entrance. After passing the temperature test, students can enter the canteen. When students purchase food, the social distance should be at least 1.5 meter in line. Students should have their meal at a designated table and leave the dining hall after the meal through the designated exit.
In-Class Study
Before entering the teaching area, students should wait in queue one meter apart After passing the temperature test, they can sit in the specified areas.
President Qin He and other leaders participated in the drill and observed the whole process. The school leaders carefully observed every detail of the drill which covered all of the areas including the school hospital, students’ apartments, second dining hall, library, quarantine observation area and pandemic prevention material storage warehouse. They offered guidance and suggestions throughout the practice.
After the drill, JISU held a meeting where they addressed concerns, analyzed the weakness that were found during this drill and potential issues in the future, and proposed corresponding solutions. They are confident that when the time comes for students to return, they will return to a safe and orderly environment.
President Qin He clarified that this drill was to perfect the implementation of pandemic prevention and control procedures that will be in place when students return to the school. The work is clearly divided and emphasizes close coordination, swift action, efficiency, and decisive handling in emergency. The expected results were achieved which is an encouraging sign for a successful return to school. Next, JISU will continue to tweak their plans and emergency response procedures to ensure all regulations are followed and students and staff are safe and cared for upon their return.
After the COVID-19 broke out, JISU conscientiously implemented the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on the pandemic prevention and control. While diligently following the requirements on strengthening epidemic prevention and control set by the Ministry of Education, Jilin Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, and Provincial Department of Education, the school has been putting the lives and health of teachers and students first. The staff has been working hard to properly monitor people’s health, clean and sanitize extensively, and prepare proper procedures for teaching living situations. Because of this, we are confident that students will be able to study once again in a safe educational environment.
