Teachers of JISU Win Third Place in the Multilingual “Teaching Star” Contest of FLTRP in 2019

On December 7, the National Finals of the 2019 Multilingual “Teaching Star” Contest of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press was held in Beijing. After fierce competition, Liu Mengke, a German teacher, and Liu Yang, an Arabic teacher, won third place. Zhao Binbin, a French teacher, and Han Jiasheng, an Arabic teacher, won first prize.

The Multilingual “Teaching Star” Contest of FLTRP is a national public welfare competition for foreign language teachers in institutions of higher education. It is co-sponsored by the Directing Committee for Foreign Language and Literature Majors of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the College Foreign Language Teaching Directing Committee of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. It aims to encourage foreign language teachers in colleges and universities to improve their teaching design capabilities, to explore more efficient teaching modes, to promote the implementation of teaching concepts, to innovate teaching modes, and to improve teaching effectiveness. The contest covers seven languages: Japanese, Russian, German, French, Spanish, Arabic and Korean.

The theme of this contest was “Exploring the Design of Gold Courses and Improving Teaching Quality”. After selection, the 112 multilingual teachers from more than 70 colleges and universities nationwide were promoted to the National Finals.

At the competition, teachers presented a banquet of “golden classes” in three forms: live lessons introducing, live lessons presenting, and expert questioning. With clear teaching design goals, advanced concepts, clear logics, smooth and lively classroom teaching, and seamless interaction, they demonstrated solid teaching skills and teaching design capabilities and won unanimous praise from the judges. The teachers said that by participating in the competition, and sharing exchanges with peer experts, they learned more about the transformation trend of foreign language teaching and got a clearer perspective of the direction of future teaching reform.

JISU attaches great importance to improving the level of teacher education and teaching, always adheres to the teaching reform thinking of “promoting reform through competition, promoting education through competition”, focusing on the improvement of teachers’ teaching ability and further improving the quality of talent training. This competition is of great significance to further strengthen the construction of the teaching staff, to better promote the modernization of education and teaching, and to strive to create “golden courses” and “first-class courses”.
