First Prize at the 4th Korean Speech Contest for College Students(Northeast)

The 4th Korean Speech Contest for College StudentsNortheast) kicked off at the Multi-functional Hall of the 1st Building, West District at HUST on the morning of September 21st, which was sponsored by the Association of Korea (Northeast) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea to China in Shenyang and organized by Harbin University of Science and Technology and Heilongjiang News Agency. Gao Yue from Korean Class 1703 won first prize with her solid language foundation and excellent on-the-spot performance under the guidance of her Korean teacher Han Youheng.

The contest aims to build a bridge of friendship for Sino-Korean exchanges and communication so as to arouse the enthusiasm of Korean learning among students, to sharpen the skills of spoken Korean, to enhance the exchanges and communication among colleges and universities offering Korean language majors, and to promote the cultivation of Korean language talents. Twenty-six contestants from twenty-five colleges and universities in three northeastern provinces participated. Judges, including Kim Jeong Ae, Cultural Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea to China in Shenyang, Kweon Jae Il Korean, President of Association of Korean and others, attended the contest.

After rounds of contests at school, Gao Yue advanced to the final in Northeast. Under the guidance of my Korean teacher, I made full preparations for this competition so I have benefited a lot along the way. The topic for my speech is about First Letter Game. I hope more and more students will be interested in learning Korean by my explanation and interpretation. Through the competition, I learned a lot from other participants and realized that I still have a long way to go. I will continue to study hard and hone my language skills in a hope to play a part in the cultural exchanges between China and Korea.said Gao.
