Apr 2, 2019 01:06 PM

Yuliya, born in the eastern part of Russia, is a master student of International Business (MIB) in Jilin International Studies University (JISU). She was enrolled in 2018. A pretty girl with brown hair, Yuliya shares the gentle character of girls in southern China.

In pursuit of learning Chinese

Yuliya has a great affinity for China. She came to JISU in 2016 to study Chinese for one semester. Since then, she has been deeply attracted to China, a country with a long history and splendid civilization. After returning home, Yuliya found that her love of the Chinese language was growing with each passing day. When she became a junior student in Russia, she came back to JISU to study for a master degree. She persisted in communicating in Chinese so as to better adapt to the life on campus. She mastered a lot of methods to learn Chinese.

“I study Chinese from multiple aspects, including writing Chinese characters, reading textbooks, studying teaching materials, and listening to CDs in Chinese. Sometimes, I meet with my Chinese friends and we share how everything is going with each other. Also, I work together with students majoring in Russian and we offer each other help with language learning”, she said. She spent the majority of her time in her postgraduate life learning Chinese.

According to Yuliya, learning Chinese is a lot of fun. When engaged in the study, she can experience diverse cultures and, at the same time, make friends and have wonderful experience. She likes the two Chinese dishes – Double Cooked Pork Slices and Scrambled Eggs with Tomato. Having a sweet tooth, she also likes moon cakes and, as a result, loves the traditional Chinese festival, Mid-Autumn Day.

To Integrate into the Colorful Life at JISU

Our school often carries out various cultural activities for overseas students so they can have a better understanding of Chinese culture. Yuliya always takes the initiative to participate. She hopes to make her study life a colorful one through these activities and competitions.

Yuliya was impressed by the tour exhibition of Jilin Province Students' Cultural Association held at our school on November 9, 2018. At the evening party, Yuliya and 16 Russian teachers and students in our school performed the original Katyusha. The excitement brought by standing in the spotlightis still fresh in Yuliya's memory. She actively signed up for Chinese Bridge and hosted the 3rd Ancient Poem Recital Contest in Chinese. She said, smiling, “I would like to attend these same king of events, which are helpful to elevate my Chinese to a higher level”.

Yuliya is also keen on volunteer services. She joined the JISU "ECO EYES" environmental protection community, went to the Northeast Tiger Garden in Changchun, and hung the wooden bird's nest on the tree branches. She said, "The environmental issue is a common concern for people all around the world. We live on the same earth together. We hope that we can unite as one and let the next generation enjoy a blue sky."

To Dedicate into the China-Russia Cooperation and Development

Growth cannot be separated from reflection. Yuliya often reflects on herself. She believes there is still a lot of room for improvement in her Chinese. She said, "I used to be shy, but life in China requires me to take the initiative to communicate with others and practice my spoken Chinese, which makes me more lively and cheerful. So I must learn Chinese well."In the future, Yuliya hopes to expand her Chinese vocabulary and be able to use Chinese proficiently in her study and daily life.

"I am glad to see that the relationship between China and Russia is getting closer and closer, because I look forward to working with Chinese friends and contributing to the cooperation and development between our two countries." Yuliya said earnestly. “I am very glad to see a closer tie between China and Russia. I want to find a job related to Chinese language in the future so that I can devote myself to the China-Russia cooperation and development," she added.

“I want to visit the Southern part of China when I have time. I really love China and I can’t wait to explore the other charms of such a rapidly developing country, in addition to its long history and well-established culture.
