“My Dream of Studying in China
Comes True”
— the Story of Kiamkina Anna, a Russian Girl, Who Is Studying in JISU as an International Student

“Be a happy person from now on.” In anactivity themed “Reading in JISU and Undergoing Splendid Life,” held by Jilin International Studies University (JISU) in accordance with the “Nationwide Reading across Universities and Colleges in Jilin Province” initiative on May 3, 2018, Kiamkina Anna, an international student from Russia, recited an emotional poem entitled Facing the Sea, Watch Blossoming in Warm Spring, written by Hai Zi, in fluent spoken Chinese.

Anna, a student from Russia, is taking Master courses in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) at JISU. “The university provides nice conditions for me to better learn Chinese, including a beautiful campus and cultural environments,” Anna said.

Resolution to realize the dream for China
Anna gradually learned about China in classes and books when she was a child. She was unconsciously attracted to the profound Chinese culture. As a result, she made a resolution to come to the over-five-thousand-year-old nation with ancient civilizations in the hope of experiencing the distinctive culture of China.
In order to realize her dream in China, Anna made ceaseless efforts to study. In 2017, Anna received the scholarship granted by China’s government. In the same year, Anna’s long-held dream to study in China came true.

When she first came to JISU, Anna was amazed by the good conditions and facilities in the university which were beyond her expectation. Anna couldn’t wait to experience the life here with a comfortable dormitory, modernized library, various curriculum and splendid cultural activities.

Anna came to love the university and her study life here more and more as time went on. She liked to prepare breakfast as time went on. She enjoyed walking and reading on campus in her leisure time.

Anna felt abundant care and concern from the team of international students from all over the world at JISU. She liked the exchange and communication of different cultures with her classmates, who had made good friends with one another.

Experiencing Chinese culture and attending activities in JISU
Anna frequently attended a variety of activities to experience culture because of her optimistic and outgoing character. She thought that she could better enhance her Chinese ability as well as get more knowledge about China.

Anna liked Taiji fan most among Chinese sports. She watched the performance of Taiji fan in the Chinese Culture Workshop class. She earnestly learned Taiji fan in class while trying to seek its history and culture after class.

Anna loved the Welcome Party for Newcomers also. At the party, every performer’s face flashed with colorful stage lighting. Their vitality and enthusiasm were reflected by their marvelous songs and graceful dances. Anna enjoyed such excellent performances as she was able to watch many talent shows, and more importantly, to feel the welcome for freshmen from the university.

Dream of returning to Russia and to be a Chinese teacher
After half a year of communication with Chinese people, Anna felt their enthusiasm, kindness, modesty, and sincerity.

She favored the manner of Chinese traditional “gentleman” and she said “Chinese are always humble and polite in everyday life. I am impressed by their behavior under guidelines of respecting the old and taking care of the young.”

Anna loved the courses planned by JISU for international students. “The teacher will assign interesting homework, such as ‘Teaching Task’ in my major class, which is namely designed to train ourselves to be a teacher to lecture for other classmates.” She greatly valued each opportunity to be a teacher. Consequently, she always spent a lot of time practicing the lessons. She expected, through her enthusiastic performance in class, to attract the whole class.

“I hope to return to Russia to be a Chinese teacher as a Chinese culture representative. I’m hoping to help more Russians love Chinese language and China.”
