On January 13, 2024, the program “Exploring China” of Thailand’s Nation TV aired the TV documentary “I Live in China — Thai Student from JISU”, which exclusively interviewed Li Jiameng, a Thai student of JISU, about her study and life in China. China Media Group, CRI Online and other media reported this event.
In the program, Li Jiameng said that at the age of 22, she comes from Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand, and is currently a junior student majoring in Tourism Management at Jilin International Studies University (JISU). Having never had the experience of studying abroad before, she gave up the opportunity to study in Xi’an and chose Changchun City, Jilin Province, which is nearly 4,000 kilometers away from her home. She said that there are very few Thai people in Northeast China, and she is the only one in this school. Such an environment has stimulated her greatest potential, and her Chinese proficiency and self-care ability in daily life have been rapidly improved.
After staying in Northeast China for nearly a year, Li Jiameng feels that although it is very cold in Northeast China, the indoor environment is warm and comfortable. The people in Northeast China are warm-hearted and bold, and the Guo bao rou (Fried Pork Slices) is delicious. The school has a beautiful environment, with international students from various countries. The school organizes a variety of activities for international students, through which she has learned a lot of Chinese cultural knowledge and made many friends. What makes her particularly proud and feel at home is that the school has also set up an undergraduate program of Thai language.
Although this is her first time in China, Li doesn’t feel any discomfort. Perhaps this is her “fate” with Northeast China! She hopes that through her major and using Chinese as a medium, more Thai people can see the beautiful and magnificent ice and snow scenery in Northeast China and feel the warmth of the people there.
