1995: The university (JISU) was founded as an institution of higher education assistance.
2003: Approved by the Ministry of Education as a private regular undergraduate university.
2005: Granted the authority to confer bachelor’s degrees and began jointly enrolling master’s degree students.
2006: Founder and President Qin He donated all personal assets to society through notarization by judicial authorities.
2007: Became the first and remains the only private university designated as a “Provincial Key Construction University.”
2010: Approved by the State Council as the nation’s sole pilot unit for the national education system reform initiative: “Exploring the Non-Profit Private University Model.”
2011: Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as one of the first private universities piloting professional degree postgraduate programs (Master of Translation and Interpreting).
2015: Became the first private university in China to establish a Confucius Institute in the United States.
2016: Became the only private university selected for the “National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China.”
2017: Became the only private university granted the “Chinese Government Scholarship” qualification for international students; Successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s review and evaluation; Approved by the Jilin Provincial Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree conferring unit in the application phase.
2018: Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council as a master’s degree conferring unit; Renamed Jilin International Studies University with approval from the Ministry of Education.
2020: Selected for the Jilin Provincial Project for Building High-Level Application-Oriented Universities with Distinctive Features (Category A).
2022: Selected as a doctoral degree conferring unit in the application phase in Jilin Province (Category A).
2024: Designated by the Jilin Provincial Academic Degrees Committee as a doctoral degree “A+” Plan cultivation unit (2024-2026).
2025: Awarded the title of “National Civilized Campus” by the Central Guidance Commission on Building Spiritual Civilization.
