On March 12, Professor Rob Burton, Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Creative Industries at Teesside University in the UK, paid a visit to Jilin International Studies University (JISU).
Accompanied by Yang Qiang, Associate Dean of the School of International Arts, and other staff from JISU, Professor Rob took a tour of the Global Village, the library, and Shiqiao Building on JISU’s campus. He spoke highly of the school’s philosophy and greatly appreciated the international education environment created by the school for students. He stated that JISU’s School of International Arts and Teesside University have already carried out project cooperation, including the 3+1 dual-degree program and short-term credit exchange programs. He hopes that in the future, the two universities can conduct more in-depth cooperation, providing more learning and exchange opportunities for students from both sides.
Professor Rob gave a report titled “Fashion and the Future” to teachers and students. More than 200 students majoring in Visual Communication Design, Broadcasting and Hosting Art, English and French, Vocational and Technical Education, etc. listened to the report.
Starting from multiple perspectives such as art, technology, future design and life, Professor Rob discussed in a simple and profound way the future development trends of the fashion industry, as well as the significance of new technologies and creative thinking in future design. By showcasing a series of costumes from science fiction movies, he analyzed in detail how these seemingly out-of-reach ideas gradually became a reality, thus stimulating the students’ innovative thinking and creativity. The Professor also had an exchange with the teachers and students, answering their questions in the fields of the fashion industry and art design.
After the report, students majoring in Visual Communication Design presented Rob with silk scarves and cultural and creative souvenirs that they had designed by themselves.
The students mentioned that through Professor Rob’s explanation, they not only had a deeper understanding of the fashion industry but also gained a lot of valuable creative inspiration and practical experience. Yao Shangwen from Class 2101 of Visual Communication Design said that the lecture broadened their horizons, allowing them to learn about the teaching model of top art institutions in the UK and deepening their understanding of art. Inspired by the Professorb, they envisioned the world 300 years into the future, which expanded their design thinking.
