To better serve students interested in overseas education and advance JISU’s international talent development goals, an information session for the University of Portsmouth (UoP) short-term exchange program was held on the evening of April 11. Attendees included Mr. Hengpu Zhang, Admissions Officer of the UoP’s China Office; Mr. Kecheng Bai, Deputy Director of JISU’s International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Ms. Fenghua Chi from the same office and over 100 students from the School of International Business, School of English, School of Oriental Languages, and School of International Arts.
The session opened with a presentation by Mr. Bai, who explored key aspects of studying abroad, including its significance, motivations, school selection criteria, and preparatory steps. His insights broadened attendees’ perspectives, enriched their understanding, and strengthened their confidence in planning for future overseas studies.
Established in 1869 and awarding bachelor’s degrees since 1900, the University of Portsmouth became a comprehensive university in 1992. Today, it is one of the UK’s largest universities, with over 23,000 students, including 5,700 international students from more than 150 countries and regions. The university comprises five faculties: Business and Law, Creative and Cultural Industries, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Health; and Technology. It holds notable rankings, including 502nd in the 2024 QS World University Rankings, 33rd in the 2024 Guardian UK University Guide, and 3rd in the 2021 UK Research Excellence Framework (REF). Since establishing a partnership with JISU in May 2023, Portsmouth has tailored diverse exchange programs, including short-term undergraduate exchanges and 3+1/2+2 dual-degree pathways, with study durations ranging from one semester to an academic year.
During the session, the presenter provided a comprehensive overview of the UoP’s strengths, location, rankings, program features, curriculum structure, costs, admission requirements, and application materials. He also elaborated on the academic prospects and learning formats of the programs. In the Q&A segment, students actively raised questions about overseas study, campus life, and credit transfer procedures, and received detailed and practical responses. The event concluded in a productive and engaging atmosphere.
This information session not only deepened JISU students’ understanding of studying abroad but also bolstered their confidence in future preparations, ignited their academic enthusiasm, and clarified their long-term goals.
