The Annual Meeting of the Jilin Association of Ethnology in 2020

To further promote the strengthening of the sense of community of the Chinese nation, the 2020 annual meeting of the Jilin Provincial Ethnic Society and Northeast Asia National Relations Academic Forum were held in JISU on December 5, 2020. The meeting was hosted by the Jilin Association of Ethnology and undertaken jointly by the Jilin Province Ethnic Affairs, the Religious Affairs Research Center, and JISU. More than 130 experts, scholars, and ethnic workers from over 20 institutions and units in China attended the meeting. These institutions include the National Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Jilin Province, the Jilin Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, the Jilin Province Academy of Social Science, the Social Science Circles Federation of Jilin Province, Jilin University, Northeast Normal University, Yanbian University, Jilin International Studies University (JISU), the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Jilin Province, and others.

The opening ceremony of the meeting was presided over by Tan Dongguang, director of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Jilin Province Research Center. Qiu Ming, the vice-president of JISU, followed with a speech on behalf of JISU to welcome all the scholars, experts, and ethnic workers in attendance.

An Yujie spoke that because the new leadership of the Jilin Provincial Ethnic Society changed its term, it has firmly grasped the main stream of strengthening the sense of community of the Chinese nation. Focusing on key and difficult issues in the field of nation, it played a role in scientific research, conducted thorough investigations and researches and offered advice and suggestions, greatly contributing to economic prosperity and social progress in ethnic areas and prosperous stable ethnic development. For related work in the future, the Jilin Provincial Ethnic Society will strictly observe the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee and bear the guidance and requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping in mind. It will implement research in terms of the sense of community of the Chinese nation in profound ways, promote the exchange and fusion of all ethnic groups, establish national unity, progress, harmony, and stability in the frontier of national relations of Northeast Asia, people’s livelihood issues of ethnic minorities, etc,. It will also aim to improve the quality of scientific research, advance capabilities of scientific research, strengthen collaborative innovation, and make contributions to the all-round revitalization of Jilin Province.

Wang Feng, commissioner of the Jilin Provincial Ethnic Society, expressed that the Ethnic Society had always led the member units and all members to base in Jilin and face the northeast areas, and positively guided the ethnological community to establish a correct research orientation. It had carried out plenty of effective measures to strive to stimulate the harmonious development of ethnic relations in Jilin Province and the prosperity and stability in ethnic regions. Currently, the annual meeting is held in time with the topic of strengthening the sense of community of the Chinese nation when the impact of the coronavirus has not yet been eliminated, embodying the Ethnic Society’s sense of modern responsibility and concern for the people’s livelihood.

More than twenty teachers and students of JISU participated in the forum. Teachers Cui Dan and Zhao Yunshuang and Bao Zhiyu from the class of 1901 who major in tourism management made speeches at the branch venue for their papers which won the excellent paper awards presented by the Jilin Provincial Ethnic Society.
