Recently, the winners of the 2019 National “Learn from Lei Feng” Volunteer Service “Four Hundred” Outstanding Models & One Hundred Anti-COVID19 Best Volunteers Program hosted by 14 departments and institutions such as the Central Publicity Department and the Central Civilization Office were announced. JISU’s volunteer service project “Multilingual Translation+International Competitions” won the “Best Volunteer Service Project”.
The contest was launched in October 2019 to better practice Xi Jinping’s “Thoughts on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”, the key notes of the 19th CPC National Congress, and the guiding points of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s letter of congratulation to the Second Member Representatives’ Congress of China Volunteer Service Association. Its aim was to actively cultivate and fulfill the core values of Chinese socialism, and vigorously encourage the volunteers’ dedication, friendship, mutual assistance, and progress. By doing so, the country will move forward to make the volunteer services standardized and regularized.
JISU attaches great importance to the practical cultivation of “public-oriented”, “communication-oriented”, and “voluntariness-oriented” spirits. It also highly values students’ patriotism, international vision, and their sense of responsibility and active engagement in the construction of the country and society in the new era. This award is of great significance to deepen the inner construction of volunteer service projects and improve the level and quality of voluntary work in the university. In the future, JISU will move forward on the talent training concept of “Service Educates”, in order to achieve the standardization and regularization of volunteer service.
As one of JISU’s branded volunteer service projects, “Multilingual Translation + International Contests” actively responds to the needs of the national volunteer service development strategy, meets the demand of economic and social development for talent training, puts the public-orientedness and communication-orientedness of the university the the forefront, and carries forward the concept of volunteer-oriented service. Translation volunteers in JISU cover 18 languages. Those currently offered by the university include English, Japanese, German, French, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Italian, and Farsi.

This project is conducted on the basis of theCredit Measures of JISU Undergraduate Students’ Volunteer Service. JISU will improve on the volunteers’ assessment, supervision, selection, training, and motivation. Based on the culture and international vision as well as being featured by the “foreign language + profession + volunteer service”, JISU provides numerous opportunities for students to serve as accompanying translators, consecutive interpreters, and receptionists. The school does this by building cooperation platforms and international channels with governments, enterprises, the military, and other universities. JISU has taken part in more than 200 international important events and exhibitions, such as the Beijing Olympic Games, the Shanghai World Expo, the Asian Winter Games, and the Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Fair. By offering language translation volunteer services, the school seeks to cultivate a sense of social responsibility and patriotism for their students and improve their ability of on-the-spot learning and practice. This also actively contributes to promoting the in-depth development of foreign exchange and international cooperation in China and other provinces in the country.
