We’ve Been Safe and Sound in China During the Winter Vacation
Mar 3, 2025 10:17 AM

From the very first case of COVID-19, JISU has always prioritized the health of all faculty and students.Taking into consideration the situation of all international teachers and students, JISU has established a special team to help the international teachers and students stay safe and sound. The members of this team keep their phones on twenty-four hours a day, report on real-time health condition, distribute masks, ventilate rooms, disinfect or sterilize the residence, provide multi-language brochures on coronavirus prevention and control, and even give tips for online shopping. The meticulous prevention and control work of JISU helped the international teachers and students better enjoy their winter vacation.

Solomon, an international student, is from the United States.

I am a Confucius Institute scholarship student from JISU, and came to JISU in September this year for a one-year study of Chinese. This is my first holiday in China. I planned to visit Beijing, Shandong and other places and experience the Chinese New Year. I chose to stay at school because of the outbreak of the epidemic. I am thankful to have JISU actively protecting us. The teachers call and ask for our health condition every day, and regularly send me masks for daily use. I got a lot from this vacation. Using the Chinese language, I talked with my friends online every day to exchange views on history, science and other aspects, which has improved my Chinese. In my spare time, I also exercise. I call my parents every day. When they know I am safe and healthy, they feel relieved. I think all the efforts China has made are to control the epidemic and to protect the people. China is excellent; JISU is excellent.

Yang Guang, an international student, from Uzbekistan.

I am a graduate student majoring in Chinese International Education. I originally planned to use my vacation time to learn more professional knowledge and improve my Chinese, so I spent the whole vacation at the school. In addition to studying in my dormitory, I also went to the canteen for meals and walked on the campus of the university, having a regular and full life.I talked to my parents online every day and they knew that I was fine in China. JISU took strict measures to prevent the spread of the virus in dormitories and the canteen. The teachers asked for my health condition every day. I hope to see the end of this epidemic as soon as possible. I will endeavor to study Chinese well and teach it in my country after graduation for more people to know and love China.

Shandy Canet, a foreign teacher, is from Cuba.

I have taught at JISU since 2018. Since the outbreak, I have been used to looking up news on the coronavirus when I wake up every day. I am lucky to have spent my vacation at JISU because JISU remained closed to visitors and any access should be strictly examined. They asked for our health condition every day and met our daily needs. My family and I felt at ease.I have seen China’s strength and great efforts to constrain the spread of the disease.I really admire the medical staff working on the frontline, and I also appreciate the speed and momentum of China’s development.I hope the epidemic will end soon, when everyone can return to normal study, work and life. I wish China a better tomorrow!

Liska Galvez, a foreign teacher, is from Panama.

I’ve been teaching at JISU for three years. I was intended to tour the southern part of China with my family during the Spring Festival, but it was cancelled because of the epidemic. Considering our safety, we decided to stay at JISU, which turned out to be the best choice. After the outbreak began, JISU immediately took strict measures to prevent and control the epidemic. The staff of JISU took care of us and provided daily necessities. I spent my days writing, reading and doing yoga, I had a full life during this special period.

From the news, it seems that the epidemic is gradually improving in China. It is because China has the great ability to handle public emergency affairs, taking the strictest and fullest measure for fighting against this epidemic. This crisis let me understand the sense of social responsibility, tenacity, and unyielding spirit in the Chinese people. I really hope that Chinese people can overcome the epidemic and be healthy.

This year, I spent a special and meaningful winter vacation in China because of the epidemic.

With the increasing severity of the epidemic, JISU immediately resolved to close the university on the 27thof January, which guaranteed the safety of people at school. During the closing time, JISU took a series of cautious and responsible actions to protect us including: regularly sending masks to us, disinfecting the elevators and corridors of our apartment, providing fruits and vegetables in the canteen and teaching us to shop online. Because of the great care given by JISU I feel the kindness of China. Although I couldn't leave the school during the outbreak, it didn't have any impact on my life. Instead, staying at home each day gave me more time to play with my son, and more time to study and research. Also, I occasionally prepared a Japanese lunch or dinner for my family. Therefore, it was still a very happy time while staying indoors.

I read related news every day after the outbreak began and learned the great work of Chinese government for the prevention and control of the epidemic. China’s fight against the outbreak has achieved concrete results with the guidance and supervision of Chinese government as well as the solidarity and active cooperation of hundreds of millions of Chinese people.I believe that this war will end and everything will be fine soon.

I have spent more than 7 years at JISU. I am familiar with everything here, adapted to everything here, and love everything here. There are lovely students, friendly colleagues and my supportive family. China is my second hometown. It is this verse” Across the mountains, streams, and foreign lands. The sun and moon, all beneath the same sky;” that expresses the aspiration of the people of China and Japan to "breathe together and share a common destiny". Here and now, I would like to express my best wishes to China and JISU.
