School of Central-Eastern European Languages
On Oct. 16 and 17, the Twelfth National Russian Contest for College Students was held at Beijing Foreign Studies University. In this contest, 359 contestants from 144 universities participated. Under the guidance and leadership of Zhou Shujuan, dean of the School of Central-Eastern European Languages, and Zhang Wei, the vice dean, our students put out a strong performance. Fang Shuyang won third prize in the speech contest for fourth-year students, and Zhang Meng, a graduate student majoring in Russian translation and interpretation, won third prize in the speech competition for graduate students.

As a project that emphasizes the importance of cooperation between China and Russia, the National Russian Contest for College Students is sponsored by the Ministry of Education. The main purpose is to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Russia. The contest also provides a valuable experience to skilled students who are learning Russian at a high level. The contest focuses on testing basic Russian language abilities including listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translating. It also provides a platform for the contestants to showcase their understanding of Russian culture, history and traditions. The contest has been successfully held every year since 2008 and will continue in years to come, providing a valuable experience to talented language students from all over China.
