On October12, the 2019 Arabic Network Novels Translation Contest, the Award Ceremony of thesecondArabic Calligraphy Competition of Chinese Universities and Colleges, was held in Beijing. JISU’sformerstudent Wu Weiwhomajoredin Arabicandgraduated in 2016now works attheEmbassy of the People’s Republic of China inLebanon.Wuwon the first prize in the contest. Luo Tingting ofthe2018 Class,majoredin Arabic interpretation of MTIalsoreceived an award for excellence.Athird JISU alumnus, Ye Yiming,who was in the graduating class of 2017 and majoredin Arabic, wonsecond prize inthecalligraphy competition.

TheArabic network Novels Translation Contest in 2019 was a national Arabic translation contestthatwas co-sponsored by China Intercontinental Communication Center (CICC) and the National Association for the Study of Literature in Arabic,theChina Association of Foreign Literature andwas hostedby Peking University and Beijing Foreign Studies University.A total of 293 submissions were received fromthirty-oneuniversities and institutionsinternationally, including Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Beijing Second Foreign Studies University, Beijing Language and Culture university and JISU. Aftermany different challenging stages, the final score by jury experts and pubic online voting producedsevenawards containingtwenty-threeprize-winning works.Twelveuniversities, including JISU,wereawardedtheBest Organization Award.

Chen Xin of class 1702 majoring in Arabic received Ye Yiming’s award.
Under guidance of the Arabic Sub-Committee of China’sNational Committee for Foreign Language Education andtheChineseArabic Language Education Association,thesecondArabic Calligraphy Competition of Chinese Universities and Colleges was held bytheArabic Departmentin theSchool of Foreign Languages of Peking University and aimed to expand the insights of students majoring in Arabic, improve the level of their Arabic knowledge and inspire their passion of Arabic.
After the ceremony, student representatives who were awarded attended the Arabic Calligraphy Lecture in King Abdulaziz Public Library BranchatPeking University and listened to the detailed explanations of two experts, Mi Guangjiang and Mao Zhanming.

This award-winning testinteaching reform of the Arabic language major in our school has created conditions for strengthening exchanges between universities, promoting professionalgrowth,improving the level of education and teaching,and the quality of personnel training.
