On September 25, having been invited by President Qin He, the ambassador Wu Hongbo delivered a specialized report titled “Global Governance Talents of the United Nation”.
Wu Hongbo, a former ambassador of China in the Philippines and Germany as well as a former vice secretary general in charge of economic and social affairs in the UN, is the eighth vice secretary general of China in the UN.
Wu shared his experience of working in the UN and explained deeply in terms of global governance and the UN the trends affecting global governance, China’s contributions to global governance, international supporters of the UN, the quality of Chinese international workers, and so on.
Wu pointed out that foreign language majors should not only learn professional skills but also learn knowledge regarding other countries and cultures. If students study with great eagerness, they will grow much more both intellectually and personally. They should form a habit of self-studying and fully grasp the importance of life-long learning.
His report evoked a strong response among the students. Han Zhenzhen, a student at MIT, said, “As young people of this new era, we should enrich our mind, grow in competence, and become high-level application-oriented talents, contributing ourselves to the development of China and the world.”
