Tim Losty, the Minister-Counselor of Northern Ireland Affairs for the British Embassy to China, paid his third visit to Jilin International Studies University (JISU) on April 15th, 2019 on behalf of the University of Ulster. The delegation also included Liu Yan, the Director of the Confucius Institute in Northern Ireland, Darryl Cummins, the director of Management, Start-up and the Marketing School, and Professor Pauric McGowan. The visiting group was welcomed by officials from JISU led by Wang Jie, the Vice President and Director of International Exchanges and Cooperation Office.

A meeting was held in the International Exchanges Center here where a Joint Education Program was discussed and negotiated in depth. The two sides reached an agreement a Combined Business Bachelor-Master Degree’s Project or a Joint Education Program of Master would be introduced if specific conditions were met. As a result, JISU students would have more options in terms of choosing their education and pursuing personal development.

Darryl Cummins later delivered a brief speech. Pauric McGown also made a keynote speech on “Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Leadership” which focused on innovative visions and new administrative methods for business management. The speech also explored various approaches to effective education in light of the current state of the political economy.

The University of Ulster, established in 1968, is the most prominent comprehensive state university in Northern Ireland. Its Business School, one of ten 5-star Schools of Business in the UK, has a very strong reputation of providing quality education. It also boasts other strong schools such as the School of Finance, ranked in the top four in the UK, and the School of Media and Computer Engineering, ranked as first-class in Britain.

This visit greatly strengthened the overall cooperation and communication between JISU and the University of Ulster regarding things such as overseas exchanges and practices for students at related-majors, joint education for teachers, and scientific research.
