The 29th Winter Universiade for Cross-Country Skiing Competition ended on March 12, 2019. As a member of the Chinese undergraduate delegation for cross-country skiing, Yang Zhanfei, a senior student studying Chinese Language and Literature at Jilin International Studies University (JISU), competed in 4 events, including a Five-Kilometer Women’s Individual Competition and a 3x5 Kilometer Relay Race. Yang’s performance ranked 12th in the 3x5 Kilometer Relay Race among all the competitors from around the world. It is the first time that a JISU student represented China at this world-class sporting event.
According to Yang, she was greatly impacted by the great sportsmanship shown during such fiercely competitive events. She left the competition with a strong sense of purpose to help encourage the growth of Winter Sports in China. “Since I am no longer an amateur, I am bound to be responsible for directing more undergraduates to participate in and enjoy Winter Sports,” Yang said. “China’s successful bid for 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games is significant. We should actively respond to the President Xi Jinping’s call to create more Winter Sports opportunities for the public and 'Inspire 300 million people to attend Winter Sports.'"
