March 14thwitnessed the welcome ceremony for the 2019 Winter Camp Delegation of the Confucius Institute at St. Cloud State University in the U.S. at the Chinese Village in the Global Village. It’s the third time for our university to host the event. Thirteen American students had a 12-day visit in our university to experience Chinese culture.
Co-sponsored by the Office of Chinese Language Council International and the Confucius Institute Headquarters, the winter camp of the Confucius Institute of St. Cloud State University hosted by JISU, was jointly organized by Jilin Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Training Center for Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign language.
Yang Hong, the Party branch secretary, from Jilin Provincial Training Center for Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. He expressed his earnest wish that the Thirteen American students would experience folk culture and real Chinese life, hence deepening mutual understanding through communicating with peers in China.
On behalf of President Qin He, Vice President Zhang Bin gave a welcome speech for the arrival of the delegation. Deputy Dean of International Exchange, Ge Xinxin, introduced a detailed schedule for the visit. The Confucius Institute Director, Kathy, of St. Cloud State University gave an address expressing her expectation for this event. Our overseas postgraduate Talin from Russia, also the holder of the Chinese Government Scholarship, and Aiden Jenning, the student representative from the Confucius Institute of St. Cloud State University, made remarks and shared their experiences of learning Chinese and their appreciation of Chinese culture. Moreover, American students sang the Chinese songFriendon the stage to express their friendship and sincere wishes.
As a base for cultivating talents of foreign languages and affairs in Jilin province, JISU is committed to pursuing non-profit and internationalized school running, endeavoring to cultivate applied, inter-disciplinary and high-quality talents of foreign languages and affairs with international vision and social responsibility featuring all-round development of knowledge, ability and personality.
In the last twenty four years, since the founding of the university, JISU has established two Sino-foreign cooperative education projects and two foreign languages teaching and research centers. It has established educational exchange projects of double bachelor degree, bachelor-to-master, and double master degree with more than 140 universities and institutions from the UK, the U.S., Russia, Germany and other 20 countries. In addition, JISU has been authorized to enroll international students supported by the Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Scholarship, Jilin Government Scholarship and the “Silk Road” Scholarship. Each year more than 300 international students from over 20 countries study here for master’s and bachelor’s degrees. Moreover, JISU and New Jersey City University jointly built a Confucius Institute in 2015.
