Premier Li Keqiang Had a Handshake and Talk with President Qin He

On March 9th, Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, joined in the deliberation of the 2019 government work report with NPC deputies from Jilin Province. President Qin He also attended the meeting.

After listening to remarks by the NPC deputies of Bayanqolu, Jing Junhai and Gu Fengjie, Premier Li Keqiang delivered a speech and put forward specific requirements for work in all aspects. When stressing the implementation of the strategy of rural revitalization, Li shared a story heard in the panel discussion on January 18thabout a female graduate who started a business in her hometown to develop modern agriculture.

After the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang shook hands with all the deputies.

“Premier Li, the female graduate that you just mentioned is my student,” President Qin He said.

“Really?!” Premier Li Keqiang said with a smile as he shook hands with President Qin He.

“Her name is Cai Xue,” President Qin He said.

Premier Li responded: “Yes, I remember her.”

“I’m from a private university---Jilin International Studies University, the first private university promoted to the university level in China,” President Qin He remarked.

Governor Jing Junhai added: “The school was just renamed as Jilin International Studies University.”

“Great!” Premier Li appraised with cheerful eyes.

President Qin He was extremely excited about talking with Premier Li Keqiang and deeply inspired. She said, “The recognition from Premier Li gives us more impetus and greater responsibilities. There is a long way to go before we realize the arduous and urgent goal of building a high-level university. We should spare no efforts to achieve this goal. It is our important mission, and also a firm commitment to the country, the society and students.”

On January 18th, Premier Li Keqiang hosted a symposium and listened to suggestions given by people from education, science and technology, culture, health and sports sectors as well as representatives at the grassroots level on the Draft of the Government Work Report.

Our alumna Cai Xue, a graduate of the Class of 2013 majoring in Business English and currently the head of Nongfeng specialized cooperative in Shulan, Northeast China’s Jilin province, shared her own experience of starting a business in her hometown as a college graduate. She gave proposals of perfecting the talents incentive mechanism in rural areas.

Premier Li said that China should learn from other countries and improve supportive policies for agriculture and better protect local products and brand logos in order to promote the development of high-quality green products. Favorable conditions should be created for farmers to earn money and increase their income. He also encouraged young people to be modern professional farmers to realize their dreams in rural areas.

From January 26thto 30th, the second session of the 13thJilin Provincial People’s Congress opened in Changchun. President Qin He attended the meeting as a member of the Standing Committee of the 12thJilin Provincial Political Consultative Conference.

On the day of the opening, January 26th, our alumna Cai Xue, a deputy to Jilin Provincial People’s Congress, attended the meeting. She was so excited when she saw President Qin enter the hall. She ran to President Qin He, hugging and shaking hands. She shared the experience of starting a business in her hometown after graduation and expressed her feeling of attending the symposium held by Premier Li Keqiang. She also bore in mind that she must live up to the Premier’s expectation of revitalizing the economy in the rural area. She was thrilled to know that our college was renamed a “University.” She extended heartfelt gratitude to President Qin He and the school and also looked forward to attending the celebration.

President Qin He listened to her carefully and highly praised her spirit of staying true to the mission and making contributions to her hometown. Moreover, President Qin hoped that she would make greater achievements in rural revitalization in the new era and visit the school often as it will always support her.
