On the evening of November 26, 2018, former Ambassador Mr. Sun Yuxi, at the invitation of President Qin He, delivered a keynote speech: “Mission and Responsibility of a Foreign Ministry Spokesperson” for faculty members and students of Jilin International Studies University (JISU).

Mr. Sun Yuxi during his speech

Mr. Sun Yuxi was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Poland, Italy, India, and Afghanistan, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Afghanistan and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. He is currently the Advisory Committee on Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the President of the China-Poland Friendship Association. As a professional diplomat, he has accompanied Chinese state and government leaders to pay state visits to more than 138 countries. He has served as a member of the Chinese delegation at the UN General Assembly, the G20 Summit, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Informal Meeting, the Asia-Europe Summit, the ASEAN Regional Forum, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Prime Minister Meeting, and the Summit of China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) Countries.

In the speech, Ambassador Sun Yuxi spoke about the experience of diplomatic foreign affairs and expounded on the qualities and abilities that diplomats must possess. In the end, he, as an approachable lecturer, patiently answered students’ questions. All the students were inspired by his spirits of dedication, patriotism, resilience and resolution.

Li Jiaqi, a sophomore student majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, said, “The report of Ambassador Sun aroused a deep sense of pride in me: the pride of being Chinese. I am thankful for our diplomats, who speak on behalf of China, conveying Chinese thoughts and showing China’s attitude. They are the most solid backing of China’s external affairs.

“I have a better understanding of the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I came to realize that foreign language learners are committed to promoting the ties and cooperation among countries. We should study hard to contribute to the Sino-foreign cultural exchanges”, said Liu Miao, a freshman majoring in Portuguese.
