On November 24th, the 13th “Kumho Asian Cup” Chinese college students’ Korean speech preliminary contest of thenortheast was held in the multi-functional lecture hall at our school. After fierce competition, Gao Yue, a sophomore majoring in Korean in our school, won the Second Prize and will go to Seoul, Korea to participatein the finals on behalf of the northeast region. Xin Xinyuan, a senior student, won the Excellence Award.

This year’s contest was co-organized by the China Friendship Association of Korea, China-Republicof Korea Friendship Association and the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. There are 9 regions of more than 200 colleges and universities participating in the contest. As the most influential national contest among Korean majors in colleges and universities in China, it has played an important role in improving Chinese college students’ ability of applying Korean language, meeting the growing demand for Korean language talents in the exchanges between China and the Korea. It also enhances mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries and people.
The northeast preliminary contest attracted 24 students from 21 universities in northeast China. They showed the results of Korean language learning and expressed Chinese college students’ profound understanding of Chinese and South Korean culture through prepared speechesand impromptu speeches.

“I am going to use this contest to measure my four-year achievement of professional learning in college and verify my strength in Korean language application,” Xin Xinyuan said in her prepared speech of “Dinner.” “I hope to convey the idea of a healthy lifestyle to both Chinese and Korean youths through my experience of college life and studying abroad in South Korea.”

Gao Yue was chosen to participate in the contest after standing out among the students within our university. “Under the guidance of my foreign teacher, I spent a month preparing for today’s contest, the preparation process of which has been very rewarding. The speech I prepared is about the theme of Korean pronunciation. I hope that through my expression and interpretation, I can arouse the students’ interest in learning Korean, encourage them to study hard and make contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and South Korea.”
As the foreign language and foreign affairs personnel training base in Jilin Province, our university always adheres to international education, carrying out all-round cooperation and exchanges with more than 130 universities in more than 20 countries and regions. The characteristics of the Korean language major have been identified at the provincial level. At present, the major has established friendly cooperative relations with nearly 30 South Korean colleges and universities. The two sides have sent exchange students, carrying out multi-field and in-depth education cooperation.
In July 2015, the first Sejong School in Changchun was officially opened in the Korean Village within the Global Village in our university. This is the third Sejong School established by South Korea in Jilin Province so far and it is the only one with independent operation rights in China. It has built a bridge for enriching the Changchun citizens’ cultural life and promoting cultural exchanges between China and South Korea through daily Korean teaching, Korean cultural experience activities, language competitions and more.
