Everyone has a responsibility to protect the ecological environment. As college students in the new era, we have a responsibility to spread this idea.

We should use eyes to find beauty in the environment, to find love in life, to pursue dreams, and to appreciate this beautiful world.

On November 8th, 45 Chinese and foreign teachers and students came to the Northeast Tiger Park of Changchun for the "Green EYES" Environmental Protection Society of HQUFL. They put environmental placards on both sides of the walkways and tied some wooden bird nests on branches of trees.

"Winter has come and we hope to give birds and squirrels warm homes."Volunteer Ma Zhenning said, “It took us nearly two months to prepare the activity, and we put our heads together to design no less than 50 signs and placards and made more than 20 wooded nests in order to inspire the public to participate in the construction of ecological civilization.”

The activity attracted 17 foreign teachers and students. Luo Ouyang, an Indian postgraduate majoring in international business, said, "I'm willing to take part in volunteer activities, especially environmentally friendly ones. I hope we can build a beautiful earth home with our own hands.”

"The environmental problems are a common concern of people all over the world," said You Liya, a Russian student. "We live together on one earth, and we hope that we can unite together so that future generations can enjoy a better blue sky."

"This activity is very meaningful," said Todd, an American teacher. "I am willing to work with my students to protect the environment."

"‘Green’ means environmental protection and 'EYES' implies we should have a pair of EYES that watch for the environment.” Guo Zicheng, head of the Green EYES environmental protection society, with great concern for Ecological civilization said, "General Secretary Xi has said that the environment concerns people's livelihood, the green mountains represent beauty and the blue sky stands for happiness. Efforts should be made to promote the protection of the ecological environment. We should protect the ecological environment as we protect our eyes, and treat the ecological environment as we treat life. It is under the call of this concept that we have established "Green EYES," aiming at increasing public awareness of environmental protection and promoting environmental protection causes, carrying forward the spirit of public welfare and the spirit of being Bridges in our college. Environmental protection is a common theme for people all over the world. I hope we can gather our wisdom and strength and work together to protect our living environment and make our earth a better place!"

Our university has adhered to the path of non-profit education since its establishment. In the past 23 years, the "spirit of public welfare" has become the spiritual guide of our school. HQUFL has set up the Youth Volunteer Association which converts "volunteer service" into practical credits and the association is included in the undergraduate talent training program. Nowadays, "all students’ participation in volunteer service" has become the school's logo; as well as, "shaping the spirit of public welfare and cultivating students with social responsibility" has become an important part of the school's education. At present, the Green EYES environmental protection society, which consists of teachers and students from home and abroad, has more than 100 volunteers.

Alice, vice secretary of our school said, "We hope to exert the students' professional competence, to cultivate the students' social sense of responsibility and service consciousness through varieties of volunteer service activities. We need to guide the youth volunteers to increase environmental protection consciousness and put the consciousness into practice, to call on them to actively participate in public welfare activities and volunteer service."
