A martial arts team of 6 members from Jilin Huaqiao University of Foreign Languages (HQUFL) won two Gold Medals, one Silver Medal, and a Third Prize of Collective Events in the National Taijiquan Tournament 2018 (Northeast China Region) which was held in the gymnasium of Northeast Normal University on October 20 and 21. The team was led by Zuo Jingjiang, Director of the P. E. Department of HQUFL and Song Xiaojie, coach of the Martial Arts team of HQUFL.

The tournament was jointly hosted by the Administration Center of State General Administration of Sports, the Chinese Marital Arts Association, and the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Sports. It was organized by the Administration Center of Table Tennis, Hockey, Basketball, and Martial Arts of Jilin Provincial Bureau of Sports and the Jilin Provincial Association of Taijiquan. The tournament included individual events, dual events, and collective events. In all, 419 athletes from 65 sports teams from Jilin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang provinces participated in the tournament.

Zuo Jingjiang said that HQUFL set up a Martial Arts team in 2004 in order to establish and carry forward the tradition of Chinese Martial Arts, to promote Chinese culture, to improve health condition of the students, and to foster in the students many good qualities such as perseverance, unremitting self-improvement, and courage to challenge the students themselves. So far, the team has cultivated over 200 talented students who are interested in martial arts. He adds that the prizes awarded to the team are a rewarding encouragement of their long-term training and it reflects the optimistic, positive and passionate spirits of both the teachers and the students of HQUFL. It also plays an important role in creating a positive and healthy atmosphere of sports culture on the campus.
