Established in 1995, the School of English offers three undergraduate programs: English, Translation, and Business English. Both the English program and translation program are rated as national-level first-class undergraduate programs, and distinctive and brand-name specialties during the 12th Five-Year Plan period in Jilin Province, and distinctive high-level specialties during the 13th Five-Year Plan period. The English program ranks first among newly established undergraduate institutions in the 2016 Jilin Province professional evaluation system. The Business English program, established in 2011, is rated as a provincial-level first-class undergraduate program. English Language and Literature is a key discipline with distinctive advantages during the 12th Five-Year Plan period in Jilin Province. The school began enrolling master degree students in Vocational and Technical Education (Business English) in 2016 and in Subject Teaching (English) in 2017. The school boasts 3 provincial-level first-class courses, 4 provincial-level high-quality online open courses, 3 provincial-level excellent courses, and 4 provincial-level outstanding teaching teams. It has established a provincial-level “Innovative Experimental Zone for Applied Translation Talent Cultivation” and a provincial-level “Translation Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.”

The school is supported with a dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled faculty team composed of both Chinese and foreign teachers. Currently, there are 82 faculty members, including 11 professors and 35 associate professors, with senior professional titles accounting for 56.1% of the faculty. Among them, 28 teachers (34.1%) have overseas study or work experience, and 13 (15.9%) are accredited as “dual-qualified” teachers. Additionally, the school employs 9 long-term foreign teachers and 22 part-time Chinese instructors. The faculty includes 2 recipients of the Jilin Provincial Outstanding Contribution Award for Young and Middle-Aged Professionals, 3 provincial-level top-notch innovative talent, 3 provincial-level Master Teachers, 2 provincial-level teaching and education models, and 2 provincial-level rising-star teachers.

Over the past three years, faculty members of the school have won over 100 awards in national and provincial teaching competitions, undertaken more than 200 research projects at various levels, and published over 40 monographs, translated works, and textbooks with more than 300 academic papers indexed by CSSCI-indexed journals, Peking University core journals, foreign journals, and provincial-level journals. They also have received 40 provincial-level outstanding research awards.

The school has established partnerships with over 40 renowned universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries, offering programs such as 2+2 dual-degree and 3+1+1  bachelor-to-master joint programs.


Over the past three years, students have won over 100 awards in national and provincial competitions, including the Top Prize -- Olive Branch Special Peace Award at the 13th China United Nations Conference, the Grand Prize in the National Business English Translation Competition, the championship in the Zhongyi Cup National Interpreting Competition(Jilin Division), the National Silver and Bronze Awards in the “Internet Plus” National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the National Bronze Award in the “China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition,” the Provincial First Prize in the ICAN College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the Provincial Grand Prize in the National College English Competition, and the Provincial Gold Award in the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup·Understanding Contemporary China” National English Speech Competition.

Graduates of the school are highly praised by employers for their moral character, etiquette, solid foundational skills, language proficiency, dedication, and teamwork spirit. They are primarily employed in central state-owned enterprises, Sino-foreign joint ventures, foreign affairs and trade institutions, news media agencies, primary and secondary schools, and other sectors. Many graduates have joined renowned domestic and international companies such as China Water Resources and Hydropower First Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., Siemens, Deloitte Hua Yong, and Fuwei Johnson Controls, holding important positions. Additionally, some graduates have been admitted to prestigious universities both at home and abroad, including Simon Fraser University in Canada, the University of Liverpool in the UK, Jilin University, Tianjin University, and Capital Normal University, to pursue master’s degrees. Notably, graduate Cai Xue was honored with the title of “National March 8th Red Banner Holder,” while Wang Dandan was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Entrepreneurial Pioneers” at the 12th Jilin Provincial College Graduates Entrepreneurship Awards for her outstanding entrepreneurial achievements, making them known nationwide.
