The School of Oriental Languages, established in 2012, offers undergraduate programs of Japanese (including the Japanese-Korean-English Experimental Class), Korean, English (English-Japanese, English-Korean), Arabic, Mongolian, Indonesian, Persian, Thai, and Malay, as well as minor programs in Japanese and Korean. Additionally, it features a Sino-Korean cooperative program and seven Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) specializations: Japanese Interpreting, Japanese Translation, Japanese-Korean Interpreting, Korean Interpreting, Korean Translation, Arabic Interpreting, and Arabic Translation.

The school boasts three national-level first-class undergraduate program construction sites—Japanese, Korean, and Arabic—and one national-level distinctive program—English (English-Japanese, English-Korean). The Japanese program is listed in national comprehensive reform pilot programs for undergraduate majors (the first batch) and is recognized as a high-level specialty in Jilin Province. It also hosts the “Changchun China-Japan University Student Exchange Base.” The Arabic program is the only one in Jilin Province offering a master degree of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) in Arabic.

The school has one national-level first-class undergraduate course, “Basic Japanese,” and five provincial-level high-quality courses: “Comprehensive Japanese,” “Comprehensive Korean,” “Japanese Translation,” “Introduction to Korea,” and “Japanese Interpreting.” Among these, the “Comprehensive Japanese” course has been recognized as a first-class undergraduate course in Jilin Province. Additionally, the courses “Japanese Viewing, Listening, Speaking” and “Basic Korean” have been awarded the titles of “High-Quality Online Open Courses” and “First-Class Undergraduate Courses”.

The school currently has 88 faculty members, composed of 12 foreign teachers and 76 Chinese teachers. Among them, there are 14 professors and 28 associate professors, with senior professional titles accounting for 47.7% of the faculty. Additionally, 44 teachers (50%) hold doctoral degrees, 22 (25%) are “dual-qualified” teachers, and 100% of the faculty have overseas study or work experience. In recent years, faculty members of the school have published over 200 academic papers, undertaken 2 National Social Science Fund projects, 1 Ministry of Education Humanities and Social Sciences project, and more than 50 provincial-level social science fund projects. They have also published over 60 monographs, translated works, compilations, and textbooks.

The school places great emphasis on cultivating students’ international perspectives and actively engages in international exchange and cooperation. It has established collaborative relationships with over 50 universities abroad and has sent more than 1,000 students overseas for study. In recent years, students have won nearly 400 awards in national and provincial academic and professional competitions, sports competitions, and social practice contests, including nearly 100 national-level academic and professional competition awards. Some graduates have joined national institutions and world-renowned companies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Security Bureau, Samsung, HP, China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, BYD Company Limited, Neusoft Group, and Asiana Airlines. They have received consistent praise from employers and enjoy a strong social reputation.
