A nationwide training of college and university translation faculties was heldatJISU on July 18. Gao Anming,VicePresident of China International Publishing Group (CIPG), and Qin He, president of Jilin International Studies University attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

More thanfortyexperts from relevant professional organizations, universities and multinational enterprises in Europe, America, Mainland Chinaand Hong Kong, Macao,and Taiwan gave lectures to or organized workshops for nearly 500 front-line teachers and translators from 173 colleges and universities.Institutesfromtwenty-nineprovinces, municipalities,autonomous regions,and overseasalsoparticipated in the training.

Gao Anming said in the opening address that,“Cultivating high-quality teachers for translation is a basis and prerequisite for the healthy development ofthetranslation discipline and the translation industry. As a nationwide professional organization for translation.Translators Association of China (TAC) has the duty to play a positive organizational and guiding role in this field. We will further strengthen close cooperation with the National Steering Committee for Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) Education andtheChineseNational Committee for Bachelor of Translation and Interpreting (BTI) Education, continuously perfectingthe teacher training mechanism and curriculum system,toimprove the quality of training, and strivingto build an orderly, professional and scientific long-term mechanism and platform for the training of translation teachers in colleges and universities.”

President Qin He delivered a speech.

President Qin He said, “It is themost valuable professional training for translation, the training of college and university translation faculties has cultivated a large number of excellent teachers for translation in colleges and universities throughout the country. It has made a great contribution to the cultivation of translators and will certainly play apositive role in promoting the quality of translation professionals in domestic colleges and universities. Therefore, JISU will seize the rare opportunity to seriously consult experts and learn from good practices and experiencesof brotherly colleges and universities, and will make every effort to provide good conditionsand high-quality service for the training.”

After the opening ceremony, Wang Gangyi,ExecutiveVicePresident andSecretaryGeneral of TAC andExecutiveDirector of China Academy of Translation delivered a report with the subject “China’s International Image”. Huang Youyi,ExecutiveVicePresident of TAC andChairman of the National Steering Committee for MTI Education also made a report with the subject “Professional Translation Teaching in the Era of Professionalism——theProfessionalLiteracyand Development of SpecializedTeachers”. Bao Chuanyun,VicePresident oftheChina Academy of Translation andProfessor of Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, made a report with the subject “The Transformation and Upgrading of Foreign Language Specialty:——Reflections on MTI Education”.

During the training, seven subjects including Chinese-English Translation Training, Less Popular Language Translation Teaching Training, Advanced Skills Training of English-Chinese Translation and Interpretation, Translation Theory Workshop and “Chinese Translators Journal” Magazine Forum, Translation and Localization Technology, Project Management Training, Translation Teaching Management Forum, Legal Translation Skills Training, were held simultaneously indifferentclasses.

The training was jointly sponsored by TAC, the National Steering Committee for MTI Education,theChina National Committee for BTI Education and co-organized by JISU. Meanwhile, it received attention and support from FIT, CIUTI, AIIC, MIIS and other international organizations and universities.
