The year 2021 is arriving and everything is renewed. At this turn of the year, I, on behalf of Jilin International Studies University, would like to extend my most sincere wishes to all teachers and students and to our friends from all walks of life who have been caring for and supporting the development of JISU for a long time. The year 2020 was an extraordinary year in the history of the People's Republic of China. The sudden coronavirus pandemic hit the "pause" button for the economic and social development of the country, which not only severely affected production and life, but also brought a profound adjustment to the world landscape. Facing unprecedented challenges at home and abroad, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, all Chinese people have gathered together to overcome the current challenges. Not only has it won a great victory in the fight against the epidemic, it has also taken the lead in the world to restore positive economic growth, achieved a decisive victory in the fight against poverty, made breakthroughs in scientific and technological innovation, and continued to improve people's livelihood security. It is especially important that the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee was held as scheduled which scientifically described the blueprint for economic and social development of the 14th Five-Year Plan and started a new journey of building a modern socialist country.
2020 was a year for the teachers and students of the school to forge ahead. The coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt formal teaching arrangements, but we have united to help each other in order to calmly respond to the virus. By doing so, we won the battle of pandemic prevention and control on campus by ensuring the safety of teachers and students, the stability of the campus, and that all work is normal. Guided by the new ten-year plan, JISU took the opportunity of being selected as a high-level university construction project in Jilin province, beginning a new venture for the second time, and focusing on the promotion of building a top-tier university with characteristics. Under the tremendous tenacity of all the teachers and students, our school successfully completed the goals set at the beginning of the year, and the 13th Five-Year Plan was successfully concluded, and a solid foundation for the 14th Five-Year Plan was laid.
2020 was a fruitful year. We have tried our utmost to overcome the impact felt by the epidemic, and committed ourselves to building a new platform and expanding new space for the development of JISU. Over the past year, the Jilin Province Demonstration Base for Innovation and Development of Non-profit Private Colleges and Universities, the first base of the China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters in Jilin province and Jilin province Peer Psychological Consultation Studio were unveiled at JISU. The "Research Institute of Publishing International Exchange and Cooperation" with joint efforts of Jilin Province Bureau of Press and Publication was established and signed using strategic cooperation agreements with Yanbian University, Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun Normal University, Iflytek Co. ,Ltd., etc. In order to expand new areas of cooperation. These partnerships created five undergraduate majors, one new discipline, one master's degree authorization program of first-level discipline and four professional master's degree authorization points were added as our school formulates a thorough plan on the distribution of disciplines and majors. The school further promoted the reform of education and the construction of new liberal arts. The school-level experimental class of simultaneous interpretation, also known as "Excellent Huaqiao Class," was formed, and the teaching cases were chosen and entered into the database of China professional degree teaching case and online teaching typical cases of undergraduate university in Jilin province during the anti-coronavirus period. Several of our professional courses were selected to take part the "National Snow and Ice Tourism High-quality Course" and "Super-Star Demonstration Teaching Package" , Mongolian language teaching materials were published in Mongolia; seven courses were approved as "first-class courses in Jilin province." There was achieved in scientific research by the establishment of the Institute of International and Strategic Studies of Jilin province and a historical breakthrough was made in publishing papers in core journals; the "Spanish" Chinese-foreign cooperation program was added; ten professors were rated as "Leading Talents" at national, ministerial and provincial levels respectively, five professors were awarded as experts of social science planning and management in Jilin province, and nine professors and associate professors were evaluated into social science planning and management expert database in Jilin province. Three national patents have been approved as our school placed great emphasis on the innovation and research of the Party Construction propaganda work. The school has won the "Four 100" Advanced Typical Activities of the "Best Volunteer Service Project" and the gold award of the Fifth China Young Volunteers Service Project Competition; volunteer service at JISU has enjoyed a good reputation within the country. Teachers in our school were rated as "Excellent Counselors in National Private Colleges and Universities" and "Modes of Teacher Morality in Changchun City". Teachers and students gained the Excellent Works Award in the Fourth World Sino-Portuguese Translation Competition, the special award in the National Business English Translation Test, the first prize in the National Business English Knowledge Competition, the gold award in the Sixth Jilin Province "Internet+" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the special award in Jilin province in the Young Teachers Lecturing Contest of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press Cup and the champion of Jilin Province Student Wushu Championship etc.. alumni Cai Xue was named "National March 8th Red Banner Bearer" and one of "The Top Ten Farmers in the Country", which added to the school.
JISU is staying true to the original mission and committed to cultivating talents for the Party and the country throughout the past year. All the teachers and students stayed united to pursue the honor of our school through striving, which fully demonstrates the vigorous spirit and character of the people in JISU. 2021 is the year when the first centenary goal achieved, the year when a moderately prosperous society is established, and the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan". In the coming year, JISU holds a unique situation in the new development stages. It will fully follow the new developmental requirements in its endeavors to implement the new development philosophy and integrate into new growth patterns. Under the guidance of the 10-year development plan, our school will carry out the "14th Five-Year" development plan and accelerate its progress toward the goal of a high-level university with distinctive features. At the new historical starting point, the school will comprehensively strengthen the connotation construction, promote high-quality and innovative development, and strive to shoulder the new mission. The fundamental mission of education is to foster virtues and morality in an all-round way, we will advance the classrooms toward revolution and ideological and political curriculum to jointly build a great pattern of cultivating people through virtue and enhance the cohesive force of "Three-Integrity Education". We will further strengthen the student-centered concept, accelerate the construction of "double first-class", "dual characteristics" and new liberal arts, strengthen professional construction, curriculum construction, and innovation and entrepreneurship education. We will strive to form a high-level talent training system to reach a "talent training pinnacle." We will, in light of the demand of national strategy and economic and social development in the local area, do more to optimize the layout of disciplines and majors, refine the discipline orientation and major features, highlight the advantages of disciplines and majors to build "Discipline Highland". We will, abiding by the law of talent growth, strengthen outside introduction and inside training to create a high-level talent team and a "talent pinnacle". We will implement the scientific research "climbing project", to build a high-level research platform and a high-level scientific research team, produce high-level scientific research results, and strive to create a "scientific research highland". We will speed up the progress of international education and conduct an all-dimensional, wide-ranging and in-depth cooperation with the world's top universities to build "a highland of international exchanges". We will enhance the modernization of the system and capacity by innovating management systems and mechanisms to build "a highland of scientific management".
2021 is a year full of challenges as well as hope and opportunity. The road ahead is full of hardships, but the future is bright. Let us seize the opportunities, face the challenges, inherit the fine tradition of the first entrepreneurship, carry forward the second entrepreneurial spirit of "innovation and creation, real work, hard work, quality and efficiency", make persistent efforts, and take advantage of the situation. Let us celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China with outstanding achievements and make new and greater contributions in building a powerful country in education and facilitating the revitalization in all respects of Jilin province!
