A Peer Psychological Assistance System was Launched at JISU

The Mental Health Education Guidance Center

JISU regards psychological intervention counseling services as an important part of the epidemic prevention and control. In order to provide timely assistance to students suffering from psychological difficulties caused by the epidemic, the university established a psychological counseling service leadership group, formulated A Psychological Crisis Intervention Plan, built a psychological crisis intervention network that is composed of the Mental Health Education Guidance Center (MHEGC), the psychological education and health studios of secondary colleges and the “Psyche Messengers”, and opened a telephone and QQ hotline. More than 500 “Psyche Messengers” formally started the internet counseling service via “Peer Support” to assist students fight against the epidemic on February 2.

“Psyche Messengers” are members of College Students’ Mental Health Education Guidance Institution who will be present in every class and dormitory. Organized by MHEGC, they attended online service training to prepare for their work. In the near future, they will work in the classrooms and dormitories and in online peer psychological support group where they will take daily initiative to understand students’ mental conditions, discuss solutions, actively intervene with psychological counseling, and carry out peer assistance. Meanwhile, our school’s public WeChat account will continuously put forward articles to increase awareness of psychological health and oversee the counseling in order to best help students and to avoid panic.

Meng Wei, the director of MHEGC, commented that a peer psychological consultant is essential for psychological assistance and crisis intervention at a very practical level. It greatly complements our mental health education system, and plays an important role in college peer psychological assistance, which can greatly promote self-care and helping one another.

All the “Psyche Messengers” unanimously expressed that they will respect and care for every individual, continuously improve their methods of assistance, and spread useful scientific information so people can proactively take precautions against the epidemic. Through this, they hope to promote lots of hope and optimism in a difficult time. We will definitely win the fight against this epidemic together!
