In light of the 70th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 100th anniversary of the May 4th Movement, Su Kewei, majoring in Tourism Management at the International Business Administration School of Jilin International Studies University (JISU), won the title of “Changchun Youth Pioneer in New Era.” This is an honor given to only two undergraduate candidates in Changchun city and is co-sponsored by the Youth League Committee of CPC Changchun Committee and 20 institutions of the Changchun Committee such as the Organization Department, the Publicity Department, and the Education Department,.
Su Kewei, a member of the CPC, was awarded a number of honors, such as “Jilin Provincial Excellent Volunteer,” “Changchun Outstanding Youth,” and “Shenyang Excellent Volunteer.” He has also taken multiple positions of responsibility at clubs on and outside of campus.
At the age of 13, Su started to passionately volunteer his time in a variety of ways. Until now, he has a total of 2,000 volunteer hours. He established volunteer organizations in high-schools and universities in Jilin and Liaoning Provinces. He offered over 50 types of volunteer service and started events for public well-being that involved about 5,000 volunteers and roughly 40 universities and colleges across seven provinces, benefiting approximate 40,000 people. His extraordinary achievements have resulted in face-to-face meetings with important public figures. He was interviewed by mainstream media including Xinhua News Agency and www.wenming.cn. In addition, Su has been making efforts to combine professional pursuits and social practices. He has led a myriad of research projects that have been listed into National-and-Provincial level social science programs.
Su’s success not only displays his great passion for and devotion to helping others, but also reflects well on the quality of student life and growth that takes place at JISU. He truly exhibits the students’ hearts and their commitment to socialist thought with Chinese characteristics in the New Era.
