Recently, the Spring Rain Project - a National Plan of Action for Voluntary Service in Culture and Tourism, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Central Civilization Office, announced the national list of candidates. Our undergraduates’ scientific research project on innovative practices of tourism -- “The Journey with Heart,” was successfully selected to be on the list. What’s worth noting is that only three undergraduate universities in China made it on the list.

In March this year, in order to promote the institutionalization, standardization and normalization of cultural and tourism voluntary service, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Central Civilization Office jointly launched the selection of cultural and tourism voluntary service. After reviewing projects and providing expert review, 60 civilized tourism voluntary service projects were funded nationwide.

Our teaching-research office for the tourism management major and the Youth League Committee attached great importance to this selection. They integrated the civilized tourism volunteer service projects with activities already being carried out. They also set up “The Journey with Heart” voluntary service project, aiming to vigorously promote the socialist core values and increase awareness of social responsibility for contemporary college students.

This project team is led by a tourism management teacher named Ran Xiangyun. Su Kewei, a tourism management student from Class 1602, is responsible for the implementation of the project. Team members include Ma Zhenning, Xu Peisong, Yu Wenbin, Xiong Jiapeng, Gao Zhao, Liu Jiahui, Wang Handuo, and Gu Hangfei.

Being selected to the list reveals JISU’s dedication to public benefits and youth voluntary service, and it also shows progress in teaching practices brought upon by tourism management teaching reforms. The accomplishment fully demonstrates students’ devotion to public welfare, entrepreneurship and a pioneering spirit. Moreover, it is an important step to increase college students’ awareness of social responsibility and the professional abilities required to carry out this responsibility.
