The theme of this year’s China “Entrepreneurship and Innovation” Week 2019 was “Pooling the Vitality of Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Surging the Momentum of Growth.” The opening ceremony took place at “Dream Town” in Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, on June 13. Li Keqing, Prime Minister of the State Council delivered a speech at the opening session. Cai Xue, an alumna of Jilin International Studies University (JISU), participated in the events at the main venue. She is a representative of a startup and innovation program in Jilin Province—“Youth Chasing Dreams Inspired by Chinese Revolutionary Spirits.” This was the second time for Cai Xue to have met with Premier Li. The first time, she, as a representative of various local communities, attended a symposium about a draft on The Government Work Report, which was presided over by Premier Li on January 18, 2019.

All the representatives present at the event listened to the enthusiastic speech by Premier Li, where Cai took a photo to remember the exciting moment. She said, “Premier Li encouraged us to seize opportunities and live up to our full potential in contributing to further development of the country, people’s well-being, and the future. As a young representative and a start-up businessperson back in my hometown, and having been encouraged by every level of government, I will work hard to be innovative and successful at running my rice business.”

As an exemplary of “Entrepreneurship and Innovation,” Cai has made notable achievements since returning to her hometown 5 years ago. She set up a cooperative with over 50 households of farmers in her Shulan Jimi Food Co., Ltd. She follows a simple plan: one corporation, one base, and farmers. Because of this, each member of the cooperative is able to have their income increased by ¥5,000 or more annually. Cai has been sent to a Jilin Province program to train young farmers for “China’s National New Professional Farmers Project.” She also has opportunities in various countries that are part of the European Union as well as Japan to study their husbandry and planting sectors. Through these opportunities, she has gained more skills and knowledge that will make her even more successful in running her cooperative.

Cai Xue added, “The Cooperative’s area of planting and the proportion of organic rice to be produced have been increased this year, which means that I must shoulder bigger responsibilities. But I am confident, especially after receiving encouragement from Premier Li and the support of so many of the Cooperative’s members, that I will run a strong business and help more of our friends in villages to make a better living.
